A NEW DAY, A NEW THOUGHT.

Matthew 6:33 says “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.”

In this fast paced world, I encourage you all to take a few moments to seek HIS Kingdom first, wherever we are and how ever we are.
These short devotionals are designed to bring you biblical based inspiration, encouragement and teaching for each day.

Meditate the WORD of GOD to involve in Mission Work

Keep this Book of the Law always on your lips; meditate on it day and night.Joshua 1:8.

Keeping the Book of the Law always means learning the Holy Bible systematically, interpreting the Word of God theologically, defending your faith apologetically, and applying the teachings of God more practically. The disciples of Christ can’t live like people who don’t have faith in God or don’t believe in the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Christian living or being a disciple of Christ is a real challenge.

Humankind had advanced in many areas of life. Modern society has all technological advancements. Though the human body has and enjoys all comforts of food, cloth, and shelter. Yet, the spirit and soul long for something beyond all these. What are those things? Love, care, concern, peace, and touch. The healing of hurts, conversation with one another, sharing of success and defeats alike in teamwork. So, to know and acquire all the blessings meditate on the WORD of GOD, day and night. It was the command of God to Joshua.

Hence, sincerely reading the Holy Bible regularly and systematically would help every follower of Christ to keep track of his life in the direction of Jesus Christ. Which will bring a great reward from the Lord Jesus Christ. So, spend time reading the Holy Word throughout life. Surely you will be very much touched and healed by the Words of God which proceeded out of the mouth of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Remember the words of Psalmist: “Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in his law doth he meditates day and night” (Psalm 1:1-2).

The book of Joshua talks generally about the victories of Israel over their enemies. Here we read through and find the grace of God, the greatness of God, the counsel of God, the command of God, and also the importance of the ministry of the saved. Every believer is expected to be a living witness. All believers must understand that we don’t have any enemy other than Satan. All those who are believers in Christ are brothers and sisters. All those who are not followers of Christ are also our brothers and sisters living without the knowledge of the creator God, they are our mission field. So, reading the scriptures on daily basis is a demand from God. Let’s put them into practice.

Prayer: “May these words of my mouth and this meditation of my heart be pleasing in your sight, LORD, my Rock and my Redeemer” (Psalm 19:14).

CHURCH

To him be glory in the Church and Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever, AMEN. (Ephesians 3:20-21)

What is Church? Some think of a location, building, or event. Yes, all these could be included but not exclusively. Beyond that church means the called-out community. Now the question is called out from where and to what.  We are called out by God through Jesus Christ to be a people of God. More than the beautifully decorated building, we need people with the inner decoration. Many huge buildings became empty because the congregations lost interest in God, and lost interest in corporate worship, traditional liturgy, and organized worship.

Added to that the honor for the word of God is despised, and preaching has been ignored.

The modern congregations are interested in more programs for fellowship and club-like events and have forgotten to glorify God. The lively congregation gives a place for divine worship, worshipping in spirit and with the truth. The word of God is exalted through the lives of the congregation. This is the time for us to think of our next generation. Make the children understand that God expects every disciple of Christ to be continually involved in the discipline and discipleship process. That is the command of Christ.

The concept of church in the Old Testament, during patriarchs’ times, in Egypt, and in the wilderness is interesting to know from the pages of the Bible. The book of Ephesians explains the understanding of the church from the perspective of Apostle Paul. The church must be mature to face all hardships and survive at all times. The church is nothing but the bride of Christ, then how she should prepare herself to meet the bridegroom.

The church functions as a united and universal church. All denominations will have seeds and weeds. The Lord will separate them at the time of harvest. The church exists in the homes and spreads to the office and businesses. The church cannot be separated from your profession and personal life. The church has full of soldiers armed with the spiritual qualities of warfare – (Ephesians 6:12 ff). Not even a single person can be unfit. All must strive to become fit and profit from one another. Amen

KING DAVID a bird’s view

A man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14).

The Holy Scripture was written for our edification and guidance. Holy Spirit has recorded many things through God’s servants. For, ex., Enoch, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Aaron, Miriam, Esther, Ruth, Samuel, DAVID, etc., David was one of the great leaders ever to live on earth. David had a humble beginning but ended his life as a Great King of his days and men remembered for many generations. He became an icon in the history of Jews, Christian, and Islam. David became a scale for evaluating the successive Kings of Israel and Judah for many generations. He became an unquestionable canon for the people of Israel to live for God.

He was divinely chosen by God and was known as a man after God’s own heart (1 Samuel 13:14). He was a much-talented man. He was a musician (Psalm 8,19,23…), mighty valor (1 17:34-36), and a champion (1 Samuel 17:40), an intelligent thinker, a man of wisdom (1 Samuel 18:14). He was a great singer (Psalm 1,23,139,51). He was a shepherd boy who later became the shepherd of the people of Israel (Psalm 78:72). His words through Psalms are very inspiring, motivational, and devotional thoughts. Whoever reads the words of David are encouraged to continue in their faith in God.

However, throughout his life, he was going through suffering and separations. He was a forgotten son (1 Samuel 16:11-12), he was a chased son-in-Law (1 Samuel 18:20), sustenance less orphan (1 Samuel 20:3). But we see in his life that he had a strong faith in the Lord, and he lived very closely with God. He quickly mended his life and lived for God rest of his life. Hence, God exalted him among his brothers and friends. He was anointed by God (1 Samuel 16;13), he had great zeal for God (1 Samuel 17:45), God was with him, wherever David has gone and whatever he was doing (1 Samuel 18:14). The great honor given to David was Jesus was known as the Son of David.

He was very handsome (1 Samuel 16:12) and had a beautiful family life. Though, he fulfilled the Law related to the care of Widows. However, he had crossed the border (2 Samuel 5:13, 11:1ff), which brought great disaster to his family life of David. He had lost control of his family members. He was tortured by his wives and children. When he became aged, his children became very insubordinate and died one after another because of the infight for the Chair. David set an example to be patient with and forgive his boss, though he was against him in all matters.

David had a committed team with him. He studied their characters and used their talents accordingly. David had very faithful commanders and soldiers who were willing to sacrifice their own life for the sake of King David. He never used the people who were with him for ill purposes. David was also known for his friendship with Jonathan. He remembered it till his life. David was grateful to his friend Jonathan and took care of his children with concern even after the death of his friend. He was a very perfect example of a faithful servant and worker. David was doing everything to please God and not for men. He has never shown his displeasure to the people around him.

David was interested in God’s work and the ark. David wanted to build a temple, but God stopped him to proceed because of bloodshed not only in the war even by of his sinful act. However, his love and devotion to God excelled the secular life. David loved the Lord and his Ark. Therefore, he danced before the ark and brought it to the city (2 Samuel 6:5). He desired to build the temple and acquired all the things need for the building of the temple. David died at good old age, having enjoyed long life, wealth, and honor (2 Chronicles 30:26-28).

SERMON ON THE MOUNT: New Principles and values laid for the world.

Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you (Matthew 5:44).

Commentators have traditionally titled Matthew 5-8 ‘The Sermon on the Mount.’ It is the first of the five discourses of Jesus that are recorded by Mathew. This is the lengthy teaching of Jesus that is found as one continuous discourse in the New Testament. It is well-accepted worldwide as one of the most resonant teachings of Christ by many seculars, political personalities, other religious leaders, and even atheists.

Mathew includes these chapters as a preparation for the following chapters of his writing. It could be said that these chapters were what Matthew considered as vision and mission statements of Jesus as He carried out His Father’s will on the earth.

Matthew introduces Christ as the Teacher on the earth. He has shown as a leader who was a revolutionary yet humble leader, a leader who came to serve. His teaching was original, drawn from His unique relationship with His Father. He did not quote any philosophers or contemporary thought in His teaching. It was anew to the entire team of his forerunners.

The beatitudes would have been difficult to accept but time has proven them to be high values. Living as poor and mournful, being meek and merciful, having thirst and hunger for righteousness, having a pure heart, living as peacemakers, and accepting the persecutions without rebellion were, and remain in today’s world, values beyond acceptance and impossible to embody in character. Jesus, however, demonstrated in His life what He taught in His sermons.

The characters of salt and light are visible and invisible things in life. Salt points to earthly life, whereas light is attached to the heavenly aspects. Similarly, Christians are expected to live with high values while giving taste to all on the earth. Jesus brought new thoughts to the Old Testament understanding of Law. He said that He came not to destroy the Law. But, to fulfill it with new energy, new lifestyles, and new principles. He revealed that the corruption of the mind precedes the body and flesh. Jesus warns us as followers of the Law to guard ourselves against this corruption.

Jesus addressed the constant struggle between the traditional understanding of living under Law and a high standard of living. Jesus has laid the foundation for His disciples to follow Him and live on the earth with His new doctrines. He gives them a new definition for murder, adultery, divorce, and oaths taken in the name of God and the temple. Jesus also taught them how to deal with vengeance and enemies. He was the first person on the earth to teach people to “Love your enemies”, and put His teaching into action on the cross. These teachings will remain relevant to all generations. When these teachings are put into practice, there is seen the growth of true human respect in society and nation. Many people who have valued the teachings of Jesus have been recognized for their good work towards society, irrespective of their religious affiliations. As redeemed disciples of Christ, the teachings of Christ must challenge us to follow His principles in our everyday lives. Amen.

HOPE AMIDST DESPAIR

You will keep in perfect peace him whose mind is steadfast because he trusts in you  (Isaiah 26:3).

Hold fast your faith. Have hope amidst hopelessness. All of us are sailing through the same boat hopelessness around us and across the globe. There is gloominess in lives. We are clueless about the future of humanity. The world leaders, scientists, and noble laureates are struggling to find a precise solution for this rugged reckless deadly Coronavirus. We have lost many experienced notable doctors, nurses, medical and police personnel, and sanitary workers to COVID-19.

It swiped away all of them quickly before we could even realize what is happening around us. Many doctors, nurses, and medical and police personnel had lost their lives.  Miracle workers, and gospel preachers have also become victims of this deadly disease. All of us have a standstill experience. Is it an end of Life? No, we are yet to go a long way for God and his Kingdom on earth. God’s purpose for humanity cannot be thwarted but continues. So, there is confidence amidst despair. There is hopefulness amidst hopelessness. Let us look for a bright and blessed future during the gloomy and threatening Coronavirus era. We have beautiful spiritual lessons recorded for all of us in the Bible in every generation.

The best example that comes to our mind is the Exodus community, they had caught between tyrant ruler Pharaoh who was after them to fight with them and kill them to eradicate them from the phase of the earth and the roaring Red Sea which could swallow them up if they dare to step in. Often, we feel the same on many occasions and struggle. But don’t we read how God delivered them from the hands of Pharaoh and his mighty armies in the book of Exodus (14:13-31). One more similar event, we read in the second book of Chronicles during the reign of the King of Jehoshaphat. The Moabites, ammonites, and Mannites came to make war with Judah. He prayed to the Lord for redemption. The Lord made their enemies rage against one another, and they fought within themselves and died. The Lord saved them while they were singing and praising the Lord (2 Chronicles 20;12-22).

We read about another experience of Disciples, while Jesus was on the earth, they were traveling together on a boat on a given day, and suddenly there was a great storm to capsize the Boat. Disciples cried aloud, Master! We are almost at the gate of death. Don’t we read how the Lord saved them (Mark 4:35-41)? One more stunning incident has been recorded in the Book of Acts of the Apostle. Paul had a voyage to Rome after he appealed to Caesar, during his trial by king Agrippa, he demanded that he must be tried and heard at Rome. So, he was taken to Rome along with 276 persons by Ship. They caught in a wind of hurricane force, called the “northeaster.” Though they had shipwreck, Paul exhorts them by saying keep up your courage, we would safely reach the shore because there is a purpose for my living. God will not let me down until that purpose is fulfilled (Acts 27).

In this hour of crisis, we shall not leave our courage and faith. We have to hope in God with unshakable faith in the Word of God. As prophet Habakkuk sings, we must dare to sing the glorious song of Hope. Though the jobs are lost, the bank balances are running out. Still, new avenues of opportunities open up to date. Yet, I will rejoice in the Lord I will be joyful in God my Saviour (Habakkuk 3:17-19).

Let us take courage in the Lord, and have faith in Him who created us and gave us the grace to live. Let us commit to him who can protect us and guide us all through tough waters. He is our refuge and stronghold on all occasions and situations

LIFE IN CHRIST

Jesus Christ, who is our source of life. Let us continue to meditate and look at the various aspects of life in Christ. Last month we heard about the beginning and progress of life on the earth. Life in Christ is abundant, humble, sacrificial, and eternal. The eternal life enjoyed on the earth with born-again experience, reading of the Word of God, leading a humble, simple, sanctified godly life with other saints, and even sharing the good news to all brings real joy to all of us. Without forgiveness, we cannot enjoy the joy of eternal life on earth. Life in Christ brings value, meaning to our existence, and able to see the value of others. Our life has a higher value than anything else. God is going to keep us under his mighty arms and lead us into the river of life.

It has begun with a Tent or Tabernacle model and evolved into a Concrete building model, called Temple at stationed places such as Shiloh, and Jerusalem. Old Testament has given the attestation of God for the immovable temple concept. So, there was clear teaching on the Temple of God at Jerusalem as Sacred and irreplaceable at any cost. The Solomon’s Temple took firm root and was established among the twelve Tribes; the destruction of that building brought the dire need for a Temple.  It has resulted in the formation of a Synagogue among the scattered Jews.

Whenever the Old Testament referred to the House of God, it denoted as a spiritual house, father’s house (John 2:12-25), house of fellowship, house of instruction (Micah 4:1-8), house of blessings (Psalm 84), house of worship (Psalm 122), house of prayer (Matthew 21:12-14), Bethel (Genesis 28:10-22). Peter refers to it as a spiritual house (1 Peter 2:5). David expresses that he longs to dwell in the House of God and explains the requirements to step in (Psalm 15).

But the post-resurrection narratives and the apostles’ era completely occupied with the domination of house worships, and corporate worship without building. The church in the early centuries was not an institution, but it was a movement of the committed followers of Christ for the imminent return of the Lord Jesus Christ.  The delayed Parousia, demanded a structure and an institution to safeguard the believers from the volatile state.

So, they erected and constructed buildings and called them the church. These buildings had emotionally attached to the believers as a point of meeting God and people despite the teaching that God is Omnipresent. The Church authorities found it as the best way to keep the flock together by performing certain ceremonies and rituals. The church desired to intrude into the World intending to transform it, but, during the course, the world has inherited the Church with its powerful ideologies, and practices against principles of Christ.

Now the call is ‘let us go to the house of the Lord.’   We, the present-day Christians understood the Church is not the building alone, but the people who gather there. The church is the called-out community for purpose of God, and a meeting place of fellowship and friendship. However, some may be using it for socialization, and as a house of Dogmas, some are proud to call themselves with their denominational identity as true Church, their building as so sacred than any other church building. The Corona has made everything upside down. Church buildings have lost their significance. The priesthood of all believers is in use. Congregations are reachable with social media platforms without socializing. However, we cannot be like the building less community. We need to come back to Church buildings to worship God as a witness to others and to renew our fellowship with one another, to know each other’s concerns, to comfort each other, to encourage each other, and to overcome loneliness.

Now church buildings play the role of the house of prayer, house of peace, house of grace and mercy, house of fellowship and friendship, house to exchange the love of God through comforting one another and inquiring about one another’s state.  Believers meeting one another face to face gives spiritual boost and encouragements to continue the faith life on earth.  So, make an effort to come to Church and worship with us.

FACE THE DEFEAT, THEN ...

Jesus predicted his death after the confession of Peter that he was the Son of God. The acceptance of Jesus Christ, the Son of Man, as the Son of God by humanity is the culmination of the mission of Christ. The real purpose of God appearing on the flesh has come to effect at this hour. Christ has progressively shared his vision. The unveiling of the glory of God has begun. Henceforth, Christ is going to teach them the great spiritual lesson of facing defeat or death. Then the new beginning awaits for a believer in Christ. Then He started to talk about the value of life-giving up the life in Matthew 16:21.

And it is attested again in John 12:24: ‘Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life.’ (John 12:24). Jesus taught the importance of his death and its effect on humanity. Therefore, he predicted his death on the cross. Jesus challenged his disciples by calling them to take up the same lifestyle. Jesus predicted his death with the hope of resurrection. Pain, suffering are leading to death but undoubtedly reciprocally to resurrection. If we are in Christ, we must be sure of the same kind of victory over defeat. Our sufferings lead to glory. Paul always says that our awaited reward glory is not comparable to our present sufferings (Romans 8:18).

Lenten season refers to the 40 days from Ash Wednesday to Easter, excluding Sundays, these days observed as days of fasting, penitent, and self-denial.  It is in line with the imitation of the 40 days fast kept by Jesus Christ. These days are set apart for the time of preparation for the candidates for Baptism and confirmation. Lent usually means giving up and having self-denial for all that you love to do in your life. Fasting is one of the Spiritual Disciplines. So, it must emerge out of volunteer, and not forced on. There must be a reason for fasting. One thing is sure the artificial, ritual, and customary prayers will not go beyond the roof of your room. God sees the innermost heart, and thoughts know what to do with us when we go to him with sincere prayers and repentance. Jesus emphasized the importance of fasting prayer in Matthew 17:21: ‘But this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.’ Here, Jesus unfolded the secret of the power and authority available for us in God through Holy Spirit.

But the keys are fasting and prayer. A desperate situation demands desperate measures of intensity, earnestness, and a desperate plea with fasting. Fasting breaks the bondage of sin and loosens the hold of bad habits and their rulership over your life. Fasting opens new spiritual gifts from God because our spirit is humbled and sensitive to the leading of the Spirit of God. Jesus spent the whole night in prayer before selecting the twelve apostles (Luke 6:12-13). Paul and Barnabas appointed Bishops for the Churches in Lystra, Iconium, and Antioch with fasting and Prayer (Acts 14:23). Church leadership had chosen with fasting prayer. Acts 13:1-3 tells that a team of leaders spent time worshipping God with fasting, and God revealed His missionary plans to the missionaries and their supporters.  The revelation of God is available according to the times and availability of the committed people. God never reveals his plan to the ones who are not obedient and unwilling to sacrifice.

Dear friends, please don’t give up your purposeful pursuit, even if it looks like defeats and failures. FACE THE DEFEAT, THEN RECEIVE THE CROWN.  The Lord has gone through the sufferings and death, and he tells us that he has overcome this world, and we too can. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). Let us face the defeats and failures, but we would bounce back with success through the blood of Christ. Bible attests, ‘And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death (Revelation 12:11).

LET US GO TO THE HOUSE OF THE LORD

Human beings are attached to the Temple or a building meant for the worship of God. Despite the belief in one God and a formless God in the Old Testament, people worshiped God in some forms and objects. God repeatedly objected to their attitudes and warned them not to create an image after the manner of any living creatures on the earth to represent God. God never approved image for worship, but He approved the building for worship in the Old Testament, and it took various paradigms to shift.

PURPOSE OF LIFE.

We live in a time of death news. The news of cries, panic is viral through many social media. All around the world and every media are full of issues related to COVID-19. We hear so much and are bombarded with news on shortages of vaccines, oxygen, and beds, queue in the cremation and burial grounds. But here is the hope of life. The question that comes to our mind is where is God and What’s happening with the world? What is the Purpose of Life?

Purpose of Human Life (Genesis 1:26-31), God has created the world with an ulterior motive of bringing glory to him alone. God wanted to establish a world ruled by Adam, a man after his image and likeness. He succeeded in it. He has given him all the authority over the entire creation on earth. He was created lesser than angels in power but higher than angels in relating to him. He never came to die for the angels but the sons of men. God gave man an extra sense than all other created beings on earth. God has created man to worship Him and to have dominion over the creations.

But the man quickly deviated from the primary purpose by encountering the fallen angel Satan, called Lucifer. The man easily believed the lie learned tricks of Satan, and he desired to become like God to know the good and evil. The man who was in the image and likeness of God forgot to realize and enjoy the Truth. Therefore, he yielded to lie and embraced the death of his soul. He lost his relationship with God. He separated himself from God due to his disobedience to God and not keeping the Truth.

The disobedience and wickedness became the lifestyle of the people on the earth till the flood destroy the created world. God found very few obedient and honest men in the pre-historical period. Finally, God found Noah as the only worthy person to be spared among the multitudes and numerous on those days. He completely wiped out the world with a flood (Genesis 6:1-8).

God has tried with Israel, the descendants of Abraham in Egypt and the wilderness (1 Corinthians 10:1-13), and in Canaan, but they utterly failed God. Though Abraham was so faithful to God and obedient to His call (Genesis 12:1-3). But the nation of Israel utterly forgot the purpose of their election through Abraham. So, he has to scatter them all over the world through Assyrians and Babylonians.

To fulfill the purpose of human life on earth. God finally sent his only begotten son Jesus Christ. Jesus came to this world and taught many lessons to His disciples through his doctrines, actions, and reactions to the given situations. The disciples of Christ are expected to be one in Christ. They must carry the message of love, forgiveness, and grace to all creation. But need to be preceded by their experience in their lives. Every individual has to live a purposeful life in Christ (Philippians 3:7-21). At the same time, we need to maintain oneness through unity in expressing our love to another, care for one another. It is possible only forgiving each other. (John 17:20—24).

Do we have a message of hope to this world in this pandemic situation? Is religious teaching relevant to the dying and hopeless world? YES. Jesus is the only hope for the world. He is the healer of all our diseases. Doctors are sincerely treating all, but healing comes from the Lord. The purpose of creation and giving life to every one of us is understood and fulfilled only in Christ.

The congregation has been gifted with multi-talented persons. Bible has the record of few offices mentioned to the edification of the believers. But today, many avenues and services are available to the Church and the Society. It is a blessing to use our time, talent for the benefit of others. God would reward it at an appropriate time (Ephesians 4:1-16).

I AM THE TRUTH.

The claims of Jesus Christ in John 14:6 ‘I am the Truth’. There were many philosophers, religious teachers, hermits, gurus, and sadhus. Some even claimed as avatars of gods and goddesses, but none could dare to say ‘I am the Truth’ except Jesus Christ. Because Jesus could live and exhibit the Truth in words, deeds, and finally through sacrificial life. He was the absolute Truth; Universal Truth; and unaltered Ultimate Truth. It shows that Jesus could be reliable, unquestionable. He is the mark of integrity, a symbol of justice, and a defendable. He never changes himself. InMalachi 3:6, God declares, “I the Lord do not change…”. Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8).

‘Truth alone triumphs’ are translated in Tamil as “Vaaimaiye Vellum”. This phrase is the direct Hindi translation of “Satyameva Jayate” which is cited from Mundaka Upanishad of Hindu Veda. Republic India has adopted this phrase as the national motto on 26 January 1950. Here Truth has been interpreted as righteousness, integrity, morality, etc. Politically correct may not be Biblically right. Today, the Truth is debauched, altered, and modified to suit the powerful and the wealthy. Truth is out of reach to the poor and needy. Truth on earth is purchased. All sorts of things are done on earth to establish lie as truth and destabilize the Truth. But we are talking of TRUTH, which is Jesus Christ, who is the embodiment of TRUTH. God is Truth.

According to Jainism, truth is rooted in the notion that there is one truth, but only enlightened beings can perceive it in its entirety; unenlightened beings perceive only one side of the truth. According to Hinduism, Truth should be spoken with honesty, straight forward, and dealt with non-duplicitous with the world. In Islam, Truth lies in Islam itself, as being the one true religion, and the ultimate answer to all moral questions.

Let us refer few passages from the Bible and know the facts related to the claims of Jesus Christ as TRUTH. He told them that they would know the truth, and truth would set them free (John 8:31-41). Truth sets them free from the slavery of sin, fear of death, fear of uncertainties, and fear of hell and eternal condemnation. So worship the Lord in Truth (John 4:21-26). The Truth lives forever means truth alone triumphs at the end. All other forms of deceitful things will one day vanish and be destroyed (Proverbs 12:17-27). Bible strongly emphasizes that Truth will certainly bring victory, justice, and wealth. So the blessings of the upright man are witnessed by others (Psalm 94:12-19).

Paul writes to Timothy to handle the words of Truth correctly, which means understand, teach and communicate to others (2 Timothy 2:14-26). He even challenged believers at Philippi to think and Practice Truth in their daily lives (Philippians 4:1-9). Jesus declared that his kingdom is the kingdom of Truth which is synonymous with the kingdom of God. The Kingdom of Truth has no place for injustice, denial of rights but has equality of sex, race, and nation. All will be treated equally and esteemed highly (John 18:36-28). The Kingdom of Truth shall be established only by Christ and by his followers. There is an end to all who are against the Kingdom of Truth.

VIRTUES OF SPIRIT

The nine virtues of spirit compared to the nine tastes of one fruit. Most of the fruits available on the market are sweet and tasty. Fruits represent sweetness, refreshing, and a healthy diet. When Apostle Paul mentioned the fruit of the spirit and lists out nine slices of one fruit, Paul starts with love, peace, joy, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. The characters are rich in graces and thought to be one. The spirit of God helps to cultivate these virtues in a person controlled by God. These behaviors could not be separated and isolated.

The word fruit described in the vegetable world refers to a matured product. John says that the fruit of the True Vine glorifies God (John 15:2-16). The abundant fruit of wheat refers to full-grown life (John 12:24), the fruit of righteousness is characteristics of godly persons (Philippians 1:11; Hebrews 12:11). The fruit gathered means lives brought to Christ (John 4:36; Romans 1:13). Now let us define the nine characters of the fruit. However, we will be studying and learning in detail in the weeks to come.

Love is the moving principle of the Christian life. The Holy Spirit of God produces this in whom he indwells and works. The spirit of God helps to flow from a person through actions. A tree grows and produces fruit, the same manner a person living in God will automatically show to this world.  Joy is the work of the grace of God, enjoyed in the spirit. Peace with God and oneness with fellow men despite differences are highly appreciable. The men in the flesh never desire these virtues in their life. Peace is a result of the spiritual process and development.

The word longsuffering relates to two words mean enduring and passion. Through the Holy Spirit, we can wait longer. We become long-tempered rather than short-tempered. The Holy Spirit enables us to have moral integrity with kindness and not get trapped in self-righteous judgment. We articulate it in every condition of life. We show goodness in our actions rather than in words. This word relates to not only being good but doing good to all, particularly to the enemies. Faithfulness is a character trait that combines dependability and trust based on our confidence in God and His eternal faithfulness.

The word gentleness refers to meekness; of course, it is not a weakness. “Meekness does not identify the weak but more precisely the strong who have been placed in a position of weakness where they persevere without giving up. The use of the Greek word when applied to animals makes this clear, for it means ‘tame’ when applied to wild animals. In other words, such animals have not lost their strength but have learned to control the destructive instincts that prevent them from living in harmony with others.”(Bakers Commentary)

Self-control refers to our ability to control our body and its sensual appetites and desires both physically and mentally through the power of the Holy Spirit. Self-control relates to both chastity and sobriety, particularly moderation in eating and drinking. Self-control has opposed the works of the flesh that indulge sensual desires controlled by God. May the Lord help us cultivate and exhibit these characters through our day-to-day life in times of good and unfortunate.

CROSS IS MY PRIDE (A reflection for Lent)

“If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself take up his cross and follow me (Matthew 16:24)

Jesus Christ is well known worldwide by the symbol of CROSS. People remember him easily, carry the cross on their necks to show how much they love him and adore him. The ancient world considered the cross as the symbol of a curse. The Romans were treating the Cross as the symbol of shame and punishment. Jews were taught that those who hang on the tree are cursed by God (Deuteronomy 21:23). But, Jesus through his death on the cross at Golgotha brought new meaning, a new identity, and new grace. For many years the Indian Cinemas projected the persons wearing a cross as villains and rebellious. For some wearing, crosses are an honor and pride.

The cross was an instrument of death according to Matthew 27:32, John 19:17, and Philippians 2:8 and Hebrews 12:2. Jesus Christ poured out his precious blood for the forgiveness of many. Jesus Christ was called the Lamb of God without blemish (1 Peter 1:19). The cross of Jesus became the point of doctrine to be preached (1 Corinthians 1:17). The reconciliation between God and Man; and between man and man was brought by the Cross of the Calvary (Ephesians 2:16). Our enmity, our rebellion, our wickedness, and all our sins found their finale at the Cross of Jesus Christ (Philippians 3:8).

Jesus Christ called his followers to carry their crosses in Matthew 10:38, 16:24, and Mark 10:21. Jesus never meant a cross made up of wooden, silver, gold, or costly stones. He taught them that carrying a cross means our life struggles, life situations, sufferings for the sake of the Gospel, for the sake of justice and righteousness. A bearing cross means bearing the persecutions and problems. Cross also means loss of property and persons. Loss of relationships and friendships for the sake and name of Jesus Christ. Cross also means betrayal by others. We need to grow in Christ day by day to be identical with Christ not only to be exalted but to carry the cross in life.

The apostles and the early disciples of Christ in the first few centuries took the cross as their pride and identity. They found that the grace of God was overflowing in their lives. They counted as blessing also worthy to be persecuted and flogged for the gospel of Jesus Christ (Acts 5:40-41). Jesus also taught them through the sermon on the mount that they will be blessed, if they were persecuted for the sake of Righteousness (Matthew 5:10-12). God’s grace is always sufficient for all of us to carry our daily cares and concerns. All men will hate us because of Jesus Christ. However, withstanding to the end will bring salvation experience (Matthew 10:22). Jesus exhorted disciples to lose their life to gain their eternity (Matthew 10:39).

Under the faith series of the Saints recorded in Hebrews 11. The author of the Hebrews declares that Moses chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time (Hebrews 11:25). Peter says we are called to suffer for a little while before we are exalted to the strong place (1 Peter 5:10). When Paul referred to the Cross of Christ, he beautifully described in Philippians 2:5-11 that Jesus Christ is in very nature of God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. He humbled and was obedient to death, even death on a cross. That gave him the name above all names in the world and another world. Jesus was highly exalted to that glorious place.

Therefore, suffering and cross-bearing will take us to further heights. We must be prepared to bear the cross. Let this season of Lent bring a very different attitude, different approach to God’s word, a different perspective on persecution and problems. Let nothing separate us from the love of God (Romans 8:35). Love of God is stronger than our struggles and scuffles. Let us conquer everything in the name of Jesus that tries to put us down, Amen.

TAKE TIME TO BE HOLY (A reflection for Lent)

I urge you all to take time to be holy and take time to think and recall all that you have heard through the preachers and reading of the WORD of God. Find out what are the best qualities you have exhibited before the believers in Christ and non-believers during recent times. Are your Church’s preaching and meditations bringing life to you? Are church services uplift your soul in Christ? Are you struggling with unanswered prayer requests or problems?

Hence, I Plead with you all to take time to be holy and take time to spend time with the Lord during this month. Call for a solemn prayer season in your family, insist that all of your households must spend at least a day with the Lord in prayer, in fasting, and in studying the Word of God for the things which are unresolved and bothering you and your household for the past few months due to the pathetic situations of the Pandemic. There is no use in entering into another Christmas season for celebration without conquering the personal and family issues and skirmishes.

We are more than conquerors as per the statement of St. Paul in Romans 8:37. God called all of us to be conquerors and victorious people. We all are called children of God. The success and victory are properties of the Children of God because everyone born of God overcomes the world (1 John 5:4). Jesus is ready to help us to overcome our unbelief about God and his involvement with us (Mark 9:24). The promise given for all of us is that Jesus had overcome the world (John 16:33), and he had given a strong declaration that the ‘gates of hades shall not overcome the church’ which means a believer will not be defeated (Matthew 16:18). Paul challenges every believer to overcome evil by good (Romans 12:21).

Bible has recorded many victorious personalities in the Bible. The list is given in the book of Hebrews in Chapter 11. The list starts with the first martyr Abel, continues with eminent personalities of the prehistoric period such as Enoch and others, then moves on to Patriarchs, Judges, Prophets, and leaders in exile and post-exilic times. We are crowded with clouds of witnesses for our edification and spiritual growth. The noted persons are Joseph, the man of integrity; David, the man of one God; Daniel and his friends, the great prayer warriors; Mordecai, a man of principle; Jeremiah and Job, men suffered for the truth. Let us strive to conquer the world and its desires in Christ.

A CLOUD OF WITNESSES (A Reflection for Lent)

The characters of the Bible, namely Enoch -Genesis 5:18-24, Isaac -Genesis 26:12-25, Aaron and Israelite -Exodus 32:1-6, 21-25, Jeroboam –1 Kings 12:25-33, Elijah –1 Kings 19:1-18, Ruth -Ruth 1:1-19 and Zacchaeus -Luke 19:1-10Each one of them represents our life on earth at various junctures. We struggle like Prophet Elijah within our Church and community to safeguard our Christian faith amid proselytes, polytheism, and ecumenism. On certain occasions, our hard work is robbed of my neighbors and enemies as that of the experience of Isaac.

He had the promise of God but he needs to sacrifice his hard work, earnings because of the authorities and unfaithful people. How often we are forced to change our conviction, understanding because of our loving wife, beloved children, close relatives, dearest friends, and our colloquies like Aaron. He had decided to satisfy the crowd rather than God, one who made him a leader of the community and who had promoted him as the god of Moses to talk for him and communicate God’s words to Pharaoh and Israelites.

How often, we behave like Jeroboam out of fear for the position and safeguarding the status. We want to please men rather than God. At the expense of our commitment and faith, we try to do the favor to men so that our position will continue and we will hold fast what we have. He executed his thoughts and called them the will of God. He took very lightly the prophetic warnings and engineered evil designs and established the golden calves.

However, there were situations for some of us to prove our commitment to God. There were occasions for us to openly declare our strong desire for God and his values. We stood for those high-profile values, we walked and talked with God in all our circumstances like Enoch and Ruth. Nothing could stop them from keeping exercising their faith. They are remembered by generations for their great lifestyles and faith achievements. The tax collector Zacchaeus was another best example of the retreat and enjoying life after repentance. His desire to gaze unto the stature, beauty of God led him to Jesus who was an embodiment of love, forgiveness, and compassion. The one word of our Lord Jesus Christ has completely changed the entire life of Zacchaeus. He told him come down quickly I want to dine with you. What a great joy that simple obedience brought eternal life into his soul.

Whoever may be, prophet, king, Government officer, or a widow, the commitment to God and fear for his sovereignty changes the course of the life events. Real commitment always leads to greater joy and loveliness of life. The walk with God and an uninterrupted follow of Jesus’ footsteps gives us the eternal assurance and hope to continue on our life on the earth. The demand of God for us is to face the challenges of daily life struggles with courage and faith in Christ.

GREAT JOY (Easter Reflection)

Great joy to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord on the first day of the week. This day reminds us of the beautiful Hymn that was sung by Angel Gabriel along with his Angelic Choir “Joy to the World”. The gap between Christmas and Resurrection was 33 and a half years. Though our Calendars are designed in such a way to celebrate them very quickly. We can’t just do them just as traditional events of the Church and forget the blessings of God. HE has put his heart and soul to reach the crooked heart and the lost soul of all even to the last man.

That great God has given us the great peace with great gifts through great Salvation poured out of His great love, and finally, he is going to bless us with a great reward to possess great gain. These blessings are an inheritance or we can call the birthright of all those who believe in the resurrection power of Jesus Christ and renewing the power of the Holy Spirit. The Lord has used great men of the Bible and History to put the world upside down.

We are going to meditate on these great things through our preachers throughout the Lenten season meetings conducted on Wednesdays and Sundays. God’s great call never changes. In every generation, His promises are anew and his power is unchanging. God looks for dedicated, humble, and submissive children of God, they may be the head of the Church or the tail of the Church. They may be popular or unpopular in the sight of the men. Bible very beautifully describes the Power of God, in all occasions and all contexts, God never denied his power and never deviated from the rules and covenant he laid for us. Therefore, all are one, God is not the respecter of men. However, he differentiates men not on the mass of the body and face of the men but the basis of absolute obedience and unquestionable Trust in Him.

The almighty God never can be reduced to the level of human beings though he became like one of us having the weak flesh and in all the ways he was tempted like all of us. He is beyond our valuations and evaluations. He looks at us with great pity for true piety to exhibit among all. We must listen to the powerful voice of God before we utter our useless and powerless words to men. At this great juncture, people live with great fear of viruses and death. The outbreak of epidemics and plagues call us for repentance and taking the Gospel to all. The quarantined life calls for the guaranteed life in Christ. All these events serve as reminders of God’s second coming and sudden coming into the world. Jesus Christ will appear soon on this planet earth. Let us gear up the evangelism through our renewed lives with fewer words. Let people read us and understand that God exists and blesses us all.

The resurrection of Jesus Christ has brought a great revolution in the religious, political contexts of the Greco-Roman world and later in many parts of the world. The purpose of the existence of the Church is to bring justice to the earth. The church must take up the task of the liberation of the people from ignorance to the great light of God. I pray for the great momentum of Anna Nagar Methodist Church once again during the Deeper life convention of our Church. The words of Psalmists be true in our Lives during Lent: “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, and my redeemer” (Psalm 19:14). Take pride in informing the world that ‘you are very close to God’s heart’, to such persons God is close and does wondrous things through them.

HAPPY RESURRECTION DAY! (Easter Reflection)

Our journey is always with Jesus, the invisible companion, on our long and cherishing life. Life is full of challenges, sufferings, death threats, and debt traps but there is a God who crossed the rivers of difficulties and challenges, the Lord one who has overcome everything on the earth in the fleshly form with great power. Jesus declared after the resurrection, “…All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me” (Mathew 28:18). Remember at the beginning of the year the Lord said, “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you” (Luke 10:19). He has authority over the demonic powers, rulers, and all that which claim as powers above us.

After the resurrection, Jesus was completely on different mission work. He was meeting the disciples who were afraid and were hurt by the events that happened in the recent past Passover celebration in Jerusalem. They were upset with the attitude of the priests, religious heads, followers of Christ who turned against Jesus on Good Friday. Very quickly they have forgotten the benefits enjoyed by the hands of Jesus Christ. They had good food and physical and emotional healing from various diseases free of cost. The fear of death, religious ex-communication made the crowd deny the Messiah and select Barabbas.

The psychology of the crowd pushed disciples into a shocking moment and in impasse status. Now they had options either to denounce Christ as Simon Peter done, or sell the ideology for which they stood for three long years as Judas Iscariot chose, or to bounce back with great strength to stand firm for their call and pay the cost for following Jesus Christ.  If they decided to pay the cost for their commitment to Christ, they need some special power from their leader, unfortunately, they are unable to meet him after the resurrection. Therefore, the disciples were in great fear and perplexity about their immediate future of themselves and their dear ones. Bible says that they had locked themselves in a room (John 20:19).

At this juncture, Christ Jesus appeared to them and greeted them. He gave them special powers with absolute authority over everything. They have seen the resurrected Christ with a radiant face, with an authoritative voice, with a compassionate heart, and with undoubted trust in their ability and availability. after the resurrection Jesus spent 40 days with his disciples (Acts 1:3). On those precious days, he opened their eyes to understand the Word of God (Luke 24:45), exhorted them, assured them of eternity, and promised his continual presence till the end of the days (Mathew 28:20). He gave them powers to heal, forgive and preach (Mark 16:15-20).

Jesus led them out to the vicinity of Bethany. He blessed them and was taken up into heaven. His hands are always with an outpouring of blessings upon all of us. Day after day, we experience the blessed hand of Jesus is being with us and leading us in every tough and rough pace, in every unexpected circumstance and aspect of our lives (Luke 14:50-51). Have a blessed life in Christ Jesus.

NEW RACE WITH NEW RAYS (Easter Reflection)

Dearly beloved in Christ, the grace of God, the love of Jesus Christ, and the sweet communion of the Holy Spirit is so pleasing and venerable when we realize the power of the resurrection in our day-to-day life. We are a precious race on earth (Isaiah 43:1), significant and original heirs of God’s image and likeness (Genesis 1:26-27). The original sin had defamed us, disfigured our features, and made us have low self-esteem (Genesis 5:3). Always our present situations lead us to realize our inabilities, our weaknesses, and our frailties.

At one point, we comprehend that every day and every time we see ourselves in the defeated situation and circles. Our hidden personalities, talents, and capacities are undermined or undervalued by ourselves because of overpowering and hovering the principalities and powers upon us (Ephesians 6:11-12). But the resurrected Lord says that not only you are unique but exceptional. He has a good plan for us with a great future. The rays which set on us are powerful (Acts 2:2-3).

Many were fooled that their birthdays and dates determined their future. Some even think that a change of their given name or a letter in their given name can take them to further heights. But we must be sure that neither our date of birth nor letters in our name govern our life. Our life is in God’s hand (Proverbs 8:35). The superior and ulterior power of God takes us further to the greater heights and positions (Psalms 61:2). Nothing can stop the blessings of God. The acceptance of Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ helps the power of the resurrected God to penetrate our being and brings changes in our heart, mind, and spirit (Philippians 3:10-11). Our thinking is changed, our attitudes are changed, our directions are changed, and our values are changed. We become honorable vessels in the hands of God for his glorious kingdom. We put Satan under our feet. Our place in Jesus changes all our stand.

Accepting resurrected Christ is more than finding a jackpot. When we found Christ, we found everything for life. No perception of good luck when Christ is with us (Philippians 4:13). Christ changes our life on the earth. Without Christ, we were running after many avenues and profits things. But when we are in Christ, everything becomes new (2 Corinthians 5:17). Our interest becomes small God’s interest becomes large. Our emotions, financial status, friendship circle, adversaries, fear of powers, rulers, authorities, subordinates, colleagues control our lives on earth. However, all these are changeable and time-oriented. But the New Race in Christ means New Heir and new life. The entry of the resurrected Christ and the outpouring of the Holy Ghost in our life changes all scenarios.

The right keys to open the right doors of fortunes, success, and blessings are in Christ (Matthew 16:19). Many times, we struggle with our wrong and inept keys. That makes to hope for good days. The best right key is Prayer as promised in Jeremiah 33:3 and John 14:13-14. Often, we stand before the doors without the key, known as Prayer. Many Mathematical problems have Zero as the only answer. The name of Jesus Christ is the valid formulae for many of our problems can be made Zero.   Walking with the resurrected Lord Changed their perspectives on life on earth and beyond (Acts 5:41), changed their understanding of the Word of God (Luke 24:32), changed their standpoints on others.  Let’s live as a new race in Christ, Amen.

THANK YOU, LORD

I am happy to note that many of you are already in the jubilant mood to celebrate the goodness of God in your personal, family, and Church life for the past twelve months since we had our last Thanksgiving Day. The Lord had shown his mercies and poured abundant grace upon all of us to enjoy His blessings. It is a blessed day and season to say to the Lord, “THANK YOU”.

The word “Give” expresses the act of GIVING TO GOD INTENTIONALLY WITH VOLUNTEERED ENTHUSIASM. Giving to the church precedes giving to the needy, poor, and social activities. Giving to Church means giving to God. However, many times giving to the poor has been seen as equivalent to giving to God. But Bible does not teach us such an understanding. Giving to God is honoring God. God commanded us to honor Him with our Tithe and free will offerings. We cannot rob God to pay the Caesar or the other way around. We can’t bandit the glory of God. God expects us to obey the Word in Toto.

God was very particular about offering when He spoke to Moses, “tell the Israelites to bring me an offering. You are to receive the offering for me from each man…” (Exodus 25:2). Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord your God has blessed you (People brought offerings of armlets, bracelets, signet rings, earrings, and necklaces to the Lord, silver, gold, and bronze (Numbers 31:50 & 2 Samuel 8:10, Ezekiel 8:28). Old Testament features the giving of Cain and Abel. Though, both were born in a family. Yet, they differed from each other in the area of giving. One gave himself and whatever he had, but the other gave everything but did not give himself. Genesis 4:4 says, “…. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor”. What we give does not matter but how we give to God matters a lot. The blessings are not guaranteed to the person who gives the most but gives the best humility, simplicity, and a God-fearing heart.

Acts of the apostles vividly describe the giving of the early Church in the chapters of four and five. “All the believers were one in heart and mind. No one claimed that any of his possessions were of his own, but they shared everything they had” (Acts 4:32). Believers started to sacrifice their properties, sold their belongings, and brought them to the church and it was shared among the people. Barnabas sold whatever he had and gave to God, that is to the Church. Whereas, Ananias and Sapphira sold their properties but kept a part of them and cheated the Church (Acts 5:1-2). Now things are clear Barnabas gave everything. But Ananias lied to the Church. Deceitful to the Church means deceit to God. Church and God were inseparable in the understanding of the early Christians.

A generous man will prosper and be blessed (Proverbs 11:25, 22:9). Giving to the poor and needy was shown in a great light, satisfying the hungry and oppressed considered as a religion. This act will kindle the light in your life and make you be brightened (Isaiah 58:10 and Deuteronomy 15:7). Giving to the mission of God, people of God and the poor are pictured as an investment rather than spending. So, Jesus talked about giving in terms of measure, pressing down, and running over (Luke 6:38). The question is are you a sparing person or generous soul (2 Corinthians 9:6). Withholding God’s blessing and not giving to God and the Poor leads to poverty (Proverbs 11:24). He who gives to the poor lacks nothing. But closing eyes to them leads to curses (Proverbs 21:13). Let us examine our attitude, our mindset, and our desires in giving. Giving to God is the higher act, honoring act, so search your heart before stretching your hand to the offertory bag.

THANKSGIVING DAY

Thanksgiving Day is a worldwide event in Christian Churches. In the United States, it is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November each year, in Canada on the second Monday of October each year. It is a national holiday to celebrate the blessings they received from God through the earth and other means. It is almost a harvest feast of our nation. Different countries observe on various days.

Our Anna Nagar Methodist Church holds Thanksgiving Day on the second Sunday of September every year. The previous day, we have the sale of eatables, games, and sports of various kinds. Due to some unavoidable reasons, it has been shifted earlier or later dates in few years. It is time to renew our fellowship with one another and to raise funds for special projects. We have raised funds for outreach ministries to construct tabernacles and create endowment funds. We have witnessed members, and well-wishers had shown enthusiastic participation in the event as individuals, organized friends’ groups, and organizations of the Church.

It is good to give thanks to God. For he has enabled us to see one more year of Thanksgiving Day or fest. The last two years had been a challenge for all of us to survive the Pandemic. Day after day, news of the outbreak of the Pandemic, mutilated virus in variant forms, shortage of life necessities, and death of the beloved kith and kins, friends and relatives, and neighbors and strangers. It has been a struggle to understand the course of life and the future of humanity. We are alive today not because we are good and great, not because we are intelligent and know the way to escape but by the grace of Almighty God.

I request all of you to participate in the Thanksgiving Feast/day of our Church. Let’s share the grace with the Church, needy, and to the glory of God. We have not fixed any target to raise, but that does not mean that we are sufficient. We want to leave the option to every individual to think of the Church and mission needs and contribute as the Lord leads you, as the Spirit of God prompts you on that day.

We will be meditating on the word of God based on the same thought line of thanksgiving. We can recall the thanksgiving days of Old Testament and New Testament times and implement them according to our times. The demands of God were never modified or changed. But the presentation of the thoughts and events have been modified to suit our times and generation. God has kept his promises alive and available to those who seek sincerely and observe them with sincerity.

The Lord is concerned about our motive behind every thought and action. Jesus observed the giving in the Temple on a Sabbath day (Luke 21:1-4). He saw many had given a lot. But a poor widow offered very little. Then Jesus passed a notable worthy comment. He said the woman gave more than all others. This statement reveals the sacrifice she made, the risk she had taken, and the faith she had in God and his providence. It had proved her love and respect for God and his projects. She had quietly left without many even noticing her. But Jesus closely watched her and evaluated her thoughts, motives and appreciated loudly and rewarded her richly for this sacrificial giving.

WORSHIP TEAMS

We are a privileged and blessed generation on the earth to worship the Lord with so many kinds of modern electrical and electronic musical instruments. Believers are talented in singing, leading the congregation in worship, and playing musical instruments. Our young people love singing contemporary songs along with traditional hymns and lyrics. Therefore, it attracts many members to join the worship. Worship leaders and music lovers discussed the importance and the role of worship teams in the development of a Church.

Development means the growth of the members in their spiritual life and the increase in attendance on regular Sunday services. The primary questions raised were: What is the purpose of the existence of a church and the conduct of the Sunday worship? What do we want to achieve through our corporate worship?

First, we needed to have an understanding of the purpose and motif of the singing. The simple answer was “to bring all glory, all honor to the LORD who is Worthy to receive all our praises”. An important aspect discussed on that day was the attitude of worshippers – why so few are participating in the worship with great enthusiasm whereas few others are not. Many tell that in every service to worship God, they enjoy the sacred presence of God. Therefore, it would be appropriate for us to think about how each individual participates in corporate worship. Every part of the church service is vital, whether it is an opening prayer or the benediction. Often, we are not perturbed about coming to the service late. How often many believers take it for granted to attend the Sunday service at any time and leave the service as they think fits for them. Some are comfortable leaving service after giving to the church or after worship or after the sermon.

I am convinced that this does not give due honor to the Lord Jesus. In general, the Church has lost its witness of the full service. It is expected from a student who takes an exam to be in the exam hall at the given time and expected to utilize every second given to that person. Every second is precious for a student in the exam hall. Likewise, our corporate worship is valuable and is to be kept by everyone who loves the Lord and loves the people of His church. The early church placed crucial importance on corporate worship. The fellowship and the worship went together in the life of the early Church. They were deliberate in giving all glory to the Lord through their Sunday services, from the beginning to the end. Jesus never took it lightly to go to the synagogue. It was His custom to go to church. He was there in the synagogue to read the scripture, to hear the scripture, to preach the Word, and to discuss with the priests. He was observing the giving. He condemned the activities which were detrimental to the worshippers. He encouraged the prayer and the singing of praises by young and all. He took care of the elderly in the Church. He healed them. Our worship must move forward with these ideals.

JOY TO THE WORLD (A christmas cheer)

“Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to men on whom his favor rests” was the beautiful chorus sung by the heavenly angelic choir led by Gabriel (Luke 2:13-14). That night was a glorious night to the world. The shepherds of Jerusalem beheld the Glory of the Lord. Few priestly groups claimed the religious rites and rituals. They called themselves privileged people, chosen and elected communities, but now it has been given to the WHOLE world through this beautiful chorus. Therefore, hereafter no one can take it for granted that the Salvation belongs to one religion, community, or nation.

The promise of God made to Abraham many centuries ago came into reality through this beautiful song. God said to Abraham: “I will make you into a great nation and bless you; … and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you” (Genesis 12:2-3). The birth of this newborn baby called Jesus is going to change the world political scenario, religious affinities, philosophical thoughts of the world. A great revolutionary leader was lying in this newborn baby. No one on the earth is going to replace him forever. He is unique and incomparable in beauty, love and words and actions, and positive attitudes. Christmas always reminds us of the highest giving of God. As John puts in his Gospel (3:16): “For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life”. We, followers, lean on Him and learn from him to give others whatever we can, irrespective of their backgrounds and inabilities. Christmas Love is God’s love for us and the demand of our love to others. Who are those others? They are our friends, neighbors, needy, neglected, and downtrodden people of our society, and even our enemies.

The ultimate purpose of God’s arrival to the world as a child was to bring peace to the earth. The peace found in an individual affects immediate family, church, community, nation, and even global. As per the statements of St. Paul, the penultimate world will have corruption, confusion, corrosion, and evil coalitions. This doctrine we could see in his second epistle to Timothy (2 Timothy 3:1-5). Paul says, ‘in the last days there will terrible times, such as people will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God- having a form of Godliness and denying its power’. Our generation has all these trademarks. Above all, the worst thing is that we find all these behaviors and performances among the so-called children of God. Are you getting into any one of these problems? Come to Jesus, confess them, and continue in the discipleship process of your soul. This Christmas calls us to renew our spirit and mind; revive our soul.

The month of December calls us once again to come closer to God, who is the creator and provider of everything. Isaiah boldly declares that the people walking in darkness have seen a great light, and on those living in the land of the shadow of death, a light has dawned. He further affirms that a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. But certainly, Jesus enthroned now with all these qualities. Therefore, Christmas brings light to us, life to all, peace to the entire creation. Whenever we come closer to the Lord, that is CHRISTMAS. I bless you all to have a more meaningful and blessed Christmas.

CHRISTMAS CHARACTERS (A christmas cheer)

The Birth of Jesus Christ was very historical and down to the earth. The gospel writers narrated the events of Jesus Christ concerning historical personalities and movements. So, Jesus was not a mythological personification as a savior but very much a human in nature. He was born during the monarchical systems that existed on the earth.

1. Herod and Kings: Luke 1:1 States ‘in the time of Herod the king of Judea…’ and Mathew confirms stating that ‘Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judah, during the time of Herod…’ (Matthew 2:1). Luke 2:1 expresses, ‘Caesar Augustus issued a decree that a census should be taken of the entire Roman world’. A few examples are given below to strengthen our faith and to share with others.

2. Zechariah and Elizabeth: They were descendants of Aaron, serving the temple courts for many years as a Priestly family. Both of them were upright in the sight of God, observing all the Lord’s commandments and regulations blamelessly (Luke 1:6). Zechariah was performing the temple worships, assisted the community to offer sacrifice to the Lord. He was praying to the Lord for a child (Luke 1:13). He had the problem of accepting the word of God that came to him through Gabriel. He did not believe the answer came from the Lord for the prayers offered to God (Luke 1:20). God’s timing is always final.

3.Joseph and Mary: Joseph and Mary were descendants of David’s family. But they are from two different lineages as per the orders given in Mathew 1 and Luke 3. Joseph was a righteous man and gentle Jew (Matthew 1:19). But he was so obedient to the vision of God. Mary was a virgin and young God-fearing woman. She surrendered her life with great submission. She took a very bold step to take the risk for God (Luke 1:38). For the sake of God, we can go to any extreme in life, and for the sake of the Gospel, we must be ready to accept any reproach.

4. Magi from East: The Gospel writer of Mathew narrates this unique historical event that three wise men came from the east with gifts. They studied the appearance of the stars in the sky and their connection with Jesus. This concept is very peculiar. Here a new theology emerges out that God is involved with human beings through the stars and signs. Their gifts of Gold, Incense, and Myrrh referred to the royal priesthood of the savior. Jesus was a King, Prophet, and Priest (Matthew 2:11). Gold speaks of royalty, incense speaks of divinity, and myrrh speaks of death.

Apart from that, we also have heavenly witnesses about the birth, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, and are Gabriel and other holy Angels. The frequent visit of Gabriel is recorded in the Gospels while they narrate the birth (Luke 1 & Matthew 1-2), temptations (Matthew 4 & Lk. 4), crucifixion (Luke 22:43), and resurrection (Mark 16, Matthew 28, Luke 24) events of Jesus Christ. Angels were so obedient to God. They were communicating the right thing to the right person at the right time. They were instrumentals to connect God and people for the Salvation of the whole world.

God exists verily, and he communicates with all of us through his gentle manner for us to come closer to him. He speaks to the world through his words, angels, and his servants. Let this Christmas season once again bring us closer to God and his people in Church and Society. So, there are many historical things we can prove to ascertain the birth and death of Jesus Christ. Therefore, the followers of Jesus Christ are not followers of Myths and Stories. But much the Truth passed on to the believers through many generations. Let’s continue to exhibit the Love of Christ to all. HAPPY CHRISTMAS.

LIGHT DAWNS (A christmas cheer)

The Christmas season has come, the first advent Rings Christmas Bells. But not very victorious and to celebrate with usual pomp. There is not much enthusiasm to think and revel. But those who live in Christ have to bring hope to the people around us, and it should start with ourselves. ‘The Light shines in the Darkness’ (John 1:5).

The Gospel writer John describes the change in the lives of the individuals and the world at large with the sentence ‘The Light shines in the Darkness’ (John 1:5). The world has been horrified with the Break of the Pandemic. Yet, it has come out of the shock of this great fear. The year 2020 has been with losses of economy, health, and lives. People move everywhere not because they have courage but to survive need to work. Every day, humanity lives with the fear of death (Hebrews 2:15). Therefore, the words of the Gospel writer are a great encouragement, and it dawns the hope of life once again in Jesus Christ during this Christmas occasion.

Light is life, joy, and pleasure. I all love lights. After the full moon, the dawn brings joy and hope to the eyes of the people in distressing and disgusting. The birth of our Lord Jesus Christ brought joy to the world, and the people who lived in the land of darkness had seen a great light. Jesus is the embodiment of light. He is the father of lights. John the Baptist was a man who came to testify that light but people took it very lightly. But he was shining to make to rejoice over his light rays. He was daring to disburse the light to dispel the darkness from his hearers. His listeners had surrendered their lives for change and spiritual progress.

Today, the Word of God is a lamp to our path and light to guide our ways and paths of righteousness and justice. What’s our hope apart from Jesus Christ who is the LIGHT of the lights. He has given that light to all those who trust in him, would become the lighthouse. Jesus Christ is the morning star, a superstar, and a great role model for all in all generations. His coming to the world, the first advent brought life to the lifeless and taste tasteless and hope to the hopeless. The second advent of Christ going to be the terrible days for all those who have rejected the grace.

When Jesus Christ was born a STAR led the wise men of east to Christ, but in the second advent all great lights would vanish, stars will disappear, and who claim as stars and superstars of the world, the celebrities of all walks of life will be doomed forever. But, the bodies of the saints are going to have a glorious resurrection to abide with Christ.

A NEW THING! (New Year's promise)

We are blessed by God Almighty, and privileged to see a New Year! Yet, in no way we are better than our neighbors and friends who had passed away last year. I believe that there is only one reason for our existence on earth is God’s grace. God has a great plan for all of us in the new year!! That is nothing else than exhibiting His love through our own lives and being silent witnesses in our places of residence and places of work. Life is short, but opportunities are plenty, make use of it. Let us look upon God’s promises and believe them for our benefit. Whenever we believe in the WORD of God, it will happen to us, “See I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” (Isaiah. 43:19).

The Lord is reminding us as we entered into another year of the Lord. The day of the Lord is at hand. The second coming of the Lord is delayed. We need to order our steps to the tune of Biblical teaching, if we had gone away from the primary teachings of the Bible, let us turn to Him. The Bible is not only giving us a theoretical understanding of certain principles and philosophically feed theological stuff; but, beyond this, it has examples of numerous personalities, both men and women, who had applied these teachings and succeeded in their life journeys, of course, quite a lot of characters had failed to trust in God and received their chastisement.

Let us meditate on the bible characters of the pre-historical period, patriarchs, prophets, priests, judges and kings, disciples, apostles, women leaders, prophetesses and deaconesses, and unnamed personalities of the Bible. Every month, we will be prayerfully selecting the names based on the monthly and yearly themes and learning from them. The life histories are given “as examples to keep us from setting our hearts on evil things as they did” (1 Corinthians 10:6).  We need to make a very simple smart strategic plan to use the maximum opportunity to learn about the above-mentioned great men and women of God.

Let us resolve in our mind to stand firm in the faith and to witness for Christ in all given life situations. The resurrected Lord Jesus Christ is with us to promulgate the values of the Kingdom of God. Proclamation of God’s love to all creatures is mandatory for all those who love the Lord Jesus Christ and follow him.

The second coming of the Lord is delayed for all those who are chosen by God to be saved. “…God is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance” (2 Peter 3:9). “Be very careful, then, how you live – not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil” (Ephesians 5:15-16).  We can redeem the days by preaching the Gospel as Disciples, early Christians did (Mark 13:10), by devotedly and diligently studying the scriptures like Ezra (Ezra 7:10, John 5:39), by learning the word of God under the feet of Jesus Christ as Mary did (Luke 10:42), by praying without ceasing (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

The purpose of doing this exercise is to move towards perfection, redefine our theology according to the day-to-day demands for spirituality and threats to faith; and recommit ourselves to the Holy Trinity to be used for his great Kingdom.

“The Lord blesses you and keeps you; The Lord makes his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The Lord lifts his countenance upon you and gives you peace” (Numbers 6:24-26).

NOW IT SPRINGS UP (New Year's promise)

Dearly brothers and sisters in Christ. We praise God for the blessings of the Annual Thanksgiving service. I thank all of you for sacrificially giving to the Kingdom cause, though your personal needs are unmet. I am sure God will honor your love and commitment towards AMC and the Church at large. The theme for this month is Now it springs up.

While the world is looking around to find the right vaccine candidate fight against Coronavirus to save the perishing, and hopeless human beings from COVID-19. The scientific knowledge, research skills, and collaborative sharing of information have failed to reach the peak of healing. But God tells us: “See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland” (Isaiah 43:19). “And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the watercourses” (Isaiah 44:4). The grass refers to Human lives in many biblical references. So, the healing will spring up. The hope of survival will spring up.

It is good to look into a few biblical passages on this theme to strengthen our faith in God. King Solomon sings, “See! The winter is past; the rains are over and gone. Flowers appear on the earth; the season of singing has come, the cooing of doves has been heard in our country. The fig tree forms its early fruit; the blossoming vines spread their fragrance. Arise, come, my darling; my beautiful one, come with me” (Songs of Solomon 2:11-13). I am sure we can trust in the Lord for the Blossoms of blessings amidst uncertainties and dryness of life.God calls his beloved to enjoy such grace daily. Who can be His beloved apart from those who love him and are washed by the precious blood of Jesus Christ? We are his beloved, and all those who are tasting this faith are his beloved. They will see the blossoms of blessings.

The preacher lists various times of life. Let us look into the energetic creative and motivating times mentioned in the Bible. “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born, a time to plant, a time to heal, a time to build, a time to laugh, a time to dance, a time to gather them, a time to embrace, a time to love and a time for peace” (Ecclesiastes 3:1-8). Of course, sickness, cries, misfortunes, and even the death of near and dear ones in the recent past have not shaken us. However, we are motivated to look into the promises of God about the progressive and growing times.

It is interesting to read the promise of Yahweh to Moses about the staff belonging to the man whom he will choose will sprout (Numbers 17:5). On that day the staff of one person sprouted, but today God promises to all those who put their confidence in Him and Obey his commandments with love and fear will spring up and sprout with greenery and yield fruits. Then, the unfailing love of God will sustain all of us, till He completes His purpose in and through us (Isaiah 54:10).

Psalm 85 starts with the favor of God shown to the Land and the restoration of fortunes of Jacob. He pleads to God for the restoration of blessings. Here, the picture of the cross does beautifully define through prophecies about the Love and faithfulness of God will meet at kissing each other. Then Psalmist sings the faithfulness springs forth from the earth and righteousness looks down from heaven. The dramatic expression of Father and Son meeting each other on the cross has vividly pronounced for our meditation. Yes, Jesus Christ has brought change. Believers have found new life in Him. Prophet Jeremiah cries, ‘Lord, you are the hope of Israel; all who forsake you will put to shame. Those who turn away from you will be written in the dust because they have forsaken the Lord, the spring of living water’ (Jeremiah 17:13) by giving rains in seasons of our life journey (Jeremiah 5:18-25).

God revealed the name Yahweh Rophekato Moses and Israel during their wilderness journey. They struggled with water-bound diseases while they looked to quench their thirst. The Lord referred to Egyptian plagues and declared him as a healer of diseases in Exodus 15:22-27. The healing of the physical body makes the soul rejoice in the Lord with a state of an ecstatic spirit. The new realm of spirituality experienced by the redeemed body mind and soul will take us. Then new songs will emerge from all of us (Psalm 40:1-3). The healing of an individual and Nation belongs to the Lord. Only he can restore humanity to its original standing because he is the Creator.

UNINTERRUPTED PRESENCE (New Year's promise)

The Uninterrupted Presence of God in all our journey. The Lord told Joshua, “Neither I will leave you nor forsake you” (Joshua 1:5). This word came to Joshua right after the death of Moses, the servant of God. The Nation was mourning after losing the vibrant national liberation leader. Joshua was very young compared to the leadership of Moses, the great stalwart of those times. The name of Yahweh has become popular because of the uncompromised leader, Moses. That position and the mantle have been passed on to Joshua. Now Joshua was perplexed and stood without direction. So, the Lord God spoke to him and assured him of His uninterrupted presence.

King David, in Psalm 37:25-40, declares his testimony that he had been a child and had grown up to become grey, but he never saw in his life the saints had been forsaken by the Lord, and their children or generation beg for food. Here, food does not mean only the meals but more than that. They never seek a job or facilities, and promotion because the Lord one whom they serve is mindful of them and their affairs. So, he would take care of them. Their bowls have overwhelmed with the fullness of God.

Then we read about the prayer of Moses seeking the guidance of God on their journey to Canaan in Exodus 33:12-23. He urged the Lord to go with him and take care of the community, which he was leading to the promised land. He asked God about the name of the leader whom the Lord assigned for them. The Lord said, he will send his Angel before them, and then he told his presence will go before them. He has assured of that presence.

The life of Jacob was another history to look at to know the promising God and His presence found in Genesis 28:10-22. God told Jacob to be confident about the God of Abraham and God of Isaac that he would be with him all through his life struggles. He has to work hard to earn the livestock and other possession. The Promise of God and Jacob’s constant touch with the Lord made him rich. Though in certain times he cheated his brother and uncle, his confidence in God’s presence made him sail through rough weathers in life.

The author of the Hebrews, though unknown to the readers, had clarity in his communication about the conviction the followers of Christ must have, found in Hebrews 13:1-8. Contentment is the route for permanent joy ever found in God. Money is needed, but that is not the end of life. The promise of God continues with the persons who believe the supplies of God with a content heart.

Prophet Isaiah affirms the promise of God that he would be present with those believers during their struggles through fire and water, according to Isaiah 43: 1-7. We need to take stock of these promises in words for our daily living. The Psalmists says in Psalm 73: 18-28 either on earth or in Heaven, we have only one hope and assurance that is Jesus Christ, the Lord God is for us. We have to be sure about it and be sensitive to this teaching of God. We must be secured in God as Psalm 16 reads to us on the Lord God and his unchanged word of God. Jesus taught his Disciples that we must be encouraged in the Holy Spirit, who is our comforter and counselor in life.

The one theme we understand in all these passages is the Uninterrupted presence of God throughout the Bible. God has repeatedly brought this theology to the saints at various periods of Biblical History. God was present in their day-to-day life, in their projects, and their struggles against the injustice and evil practices of the Kings and people.

Today the Lord is confirmed and affirms that the same Lord ever exists to help us to understand his presence in our lives in every small or big problem we face in our lives. Every situation and every occasion meets with various issues, but to the Lord, everything seems easy and equal to resolve. May the Lord continue to help us to feel his presence and overcome all that hinders our growth in Him and the world.

UNKNOWN WAYS AND UNFAMILIAR PATHS (New Year's promise)

God spoke to Prophet Isaiah that he is going to lead his Son Israel. He told him that He will guide them, he will turn their darkness into light as we meditated during the Christmas Season, and he will make the rough places into smooth places, he will turn the mountains into roads and his highways will be raised. Also, he will not forsake them (Isaiah 42:16).

The ways of the men are blind leading the blind, both will fall into the ditch and an inescapable bottomless pit. Therefore, Christ has declared to his disciples at the end of his life and mission that ‘He was the Way the Truth and the Life. Our God journeys with us in every odd and bad scenario like poverty, sickness, and loneliness. Jesus journeyed in the same boat with the disciples during storms, whirlwinds and high tides, and worst situations, in the same way, he accompanied during the Pandemic and He continues.

It is amazing to learn the ways of the Lord throughout the Bible. We always admire the history of Abraham. He was a young man chosen by Yahweh for his deeper devotion and commitment. He was commanded by the Lord to commence his journey to the unknown land without Map. He has to just listen to the Lord and make every step. His steps were ordered by God. Bible records that Abraham believed and obeyed the Lord. He observed all that God taught him to observe, and carefully dealt with the people, and nations according to the guidance of the Spirit of God. Hence, God established the ways of Abraham. The faithfulness and trust of Abraham in God were counted as righteousness (Genesis 12-17). What is the greatest threat in your life to disobey God, what is that sin? What is that desire of your heart?

God made ways through the Red Sea, He made roads through overflowing Jordan, He made streams in the desert, and He provided food in the wilderness to the Children of Israel. The long binding bond of Christ continued between Yahweh and Israel for several centuries. From the day they were released from the Bondage of Egypt to the day they were scattered throughout Assyria and Babylon Kingdom, the care and protection of God were with them. The experienced and trained army officers were stumbled, perplexed, and requested Prophet Jeremiah to find out from the Lord through prayers and petitions which are the right ways to go and right things to do to save the people (Jeremiah 42:3). Righteous must level his ways to the righteous ways of the Lord (Isaiah 26:7). Prophet Hosea said the ways of the Lord are right (Hosea 14:9).

Divine ways are described, and inscribed in the tablet of God. Today, we are given in the printed form as Bible (Psalm 18:30). The Lord is righteous in all His ways, that means, in all his dealings with his beloved and chosen people (Psalm 145:17). His ways are higher than our ways (Isaiah 55:9). So, Habakkuk called the people to look into their ways (Habakkuk 3:6). Jesus also talked about the high way and narrow ways (Matthew 7:14 and Luke 1:79). Jesus Christ has created access to the throne of grace, where we could find love and forgiveness of God (Hebrews 10:20).

Let us strengthen our foundation strong in Christ and His word (Matthew 7:24-27). Our foundation can be strengthened through a personal relationship with Christ on daily basis, must be guarded by the Holy Spirit, let every walk of our lives be prompted by the Holy Spirit. Spending time with God in prayer makes a person strong. No one is too busy not to pray. Daily discipline to pray, read the word, and apply it in your life.

Today, decide to do one thing before you retire to your bed. Let the day end with a family Altar. Have at least a short service with your family members. I am sure you were busy the whole day in your business but spending a few minutes with your son, daughter and parents will build your home for eternity. Never go to bed with your TV serial or movies or YouTube or WhatsApp, even with NEWS. You are going to be Captivated by them all and disturbed throughout the night without proper rest, peace, and sleep. Never go to bed with an unforgiving spirit or spirit of fret and jealousy on others. If you do these things on daily basis and the given day, I am sure that the Unknown ways and unfamiliar Paths in your life would turn into ablessed way year with successful ways.

HE LEADS ME OUT (John 10:3) (New Year's promise)

Jesus Christ claimed that He was the Good Shepherd. He leads the sheep. In John 10:3, Jesus said that he calls his followers by name and leads them out of the Sheep pen. He leads them to freedom, and he leads them beside still waters and leads them to green pastures and prosperity. We face many challenges in our travel, to choose any unethical way or ways of selfish paths. The challenge is to be on the right track for the life journey. The way we think and do refer to a way of life. Bible gives us enormous advice and warnings about the path we are supposed to go through while we are on the earth. Our limited life span demands more energy to do the right things on earth throughout our lives. So we need a leader who appropriately leads us.

Bible is our base to understand this theme too. In Deuteronomy 8:1-20, God would like to teach the exodus community before entering into the promised land how he leads them through the wilderness. The same Lord leads me and you through our life wilderness experiences. The drylands, waterless, and starving situations make us depend upon the promises of God and make us trust in His almighty power and miraculous supply of our needs at needed hours. In those days, God revealed his Ten Commandments, decrees, and laws to Moses, and He rained the heavenly Manna and fed them with meats. They lacked nothing, especially the basic needs of shelter, food, and cloth. Added to that, he had given them the strength to walk without swelling.

Our God travels with us and has given us the company of many co-travelers. God makes the enemies of Israel travel the road which they had never known and confused them (Isaiah (41:3), so, blindfolded and lost their ways to be defeated. But He holds the hand of His servant Jacob, and He travels with him. He says to them, do not fear, for I am with you in your journey (Isaiah 41:10). An interesting matter about our travel history is that God has set many co-travelers with us. The parable of the Good Samaritan (Luke 10:25-37) explains how the co-travelers behave with us on many occasions. The pious people walk away, the educated talk a lot but never come closer to part take and relieve from the pain. Always God has kept a traveler with us who shows mercy and compassion and anoints us with oil of healing.

Our life on earth, from childhood to youthful days and the old age, needs a lot of counseling, training, and teaching on the pure and straight ways (Proverbs 22:1-16 & Psalm 119:1-16), also proper guidance of a leader (Psalm 73:23-28), and grace to complete the race. By any means, all have to complete their race one day on the earth, but a race with Christ always ends with triumph (2 Corinthians 2:12-3:6). Even Jesus shouted at last that he had finished the task set before him. Paul declared that he had completed his race and waiting to be crowned by the judge for his ways and deeds (2 Timothy 4:7-8). Therefore, let us run the race set before us, fixing our eyes upon him who completed the race (Hebrews 12:1-3), and seated on the right hand of the Father (Colossians 3:1), for that let us seek his face and tell him to lead us throughout this month.

ELECTION OF GOD (Based on Romans 8:28-30)

Jesus said, “you did not choose me but I have chosen you.” (John 15:16)

We will try to understand the theology of the Election of God. How can God elect few and reject many, and still, he can be God of all? How can God be known as God of all and respecter of no persons? If God has done elected already, then why do we need to strive to save many, spend money for the missions, and sacrifice our entire life struggling to bring to the knowledge of God? These questions arise in the minds of any genuine believer and a child of God who is maturing in Christ.

Who is God’s elect? Deuteronomy 7:6 and 14:2 express that God has elected Israel as his nation and people. Chosen not for their credibility and reliability but God’s love, mercy, desire, and for his pleasure. Then where is justice? Some may argue that why can’t he do?

In John 15:16, Jesus said, “you did not choose me but I have chosen you”. The election is, by the way, God’s desire as well as the response of the elected. Nothing is demanded, and nothing is forced. The Love of God and the free will of humanity play the role. The foreknowledge of God has known you, determined to fix you and to own you (1 Peter 1:20).  Human questions, human understandings, and human explanations may not suffice and are used to human satisfaction about the election of God.  Election of God is not based on one’s pure work and credit but by heart, not by works but by calling and sovereign choice of God (Romans 9:11).

Divine election in the New Testament is not corporate but individual. God elected Abraham, and through him, he elected the Jewish nation but not all the sons of Abraham were elected, not all the sons of Isaac were elected, not all the sons of Israel were elected. Not all the sons of their generations were elected. Not all the sons of Aaron were elected. Though God indeed wants everybody to be saved. However, the reality is that everybody could be saved or may not be saved.

It all depends upon their acceptance and responses as well God’s acceptance and response. God doesn’t reject anyone. He calls all of His creation to be with him. We articulate God’s grace and salvation to all. Nevertheless, he denied some to follow him because of their hearts’ intention. In a few cases, he even questioned their desire to follow him. He told them that he doesn’t fit with their designs of life. An election is according to the purpose, mystery, and council of God (Ephesians 1:5,9, and 11). The election is in perfect harmony with his justice and love and nothing else. The election brings glory and honor to God (Ephesians 1:6 and 12). Election doesn’t rule out the faith and repentance of an individual, the importance of mission, and evangelism.

Calvin believed in TULIP (Total depravity, Unconditional election, Limited atonement, irresistible grace, and Perseverance of the saints). Methodists strongly believe in Evangelism and Inclusiveness. No doubt that Christ died for all and not just for a limited group. Thus, everyone is entitled to God’s grace. It is believed that God has predestined and elected few based on their responses. But eternal life belongs to all.

What are the privileges of God’s elect? Romans 8:33 that no one can stand, they are adorned with holiness, bowels of mercies, kindness, humbleness of mind and meekness and longsuffering. God’s election is based at the end of our walk with God, obedience and washed by the blood of Jesus Christ with use of FREE WILL (I Peter 1:2). 2 Peter 1:10 says ‘give the diligence to make your calling and election sure. Amen.

“BE CONFORMED TO THE IMAGE OF HIS SON”. (Based on Romans 8:28-30)

God expects us to be confirmed to the ‘Son of God’ in our attitude, in our mind, in having compassion like him, in showing mercy to others, in doing good to others, spending time in prayer, understanding the times of the prophecy and striving to fulfill them all, exercising the spiritual powers with authority and finally sacrificing our own life for the sake of others.

Jesus, while he was on the earth, walked following the scriptures and was found in the temple of Jerusalem talking with the priests, Pharisees, and lawyers. When the time has come, he went to Jordan to be baptized by John the Baptist. He was so much concerned about fulfilling the scriptures in every aspect. Mathew often remembers in his Gospel that ‘this had happened to fulfill the scriptures’.

The prayer life of Jesus was extraordinary- he sought God early in the morning, he prayed the whole night, he spent forty days and nights in fasting and prayer. He cried aloud on many occasions. He prayed before selecting his twelve and the seventy disciples. Jesus offered prayer before doing any miracle. For, ex., multiplication of bread and fish, rising of the dead, healing the sick, and before casting the demonic spirits. Prayer was his life. Jesus had moved with compassion to everyone, whomsoever he saw and met during his ministry. He had shown mercy to the needy. Jesus never rejected anyone who came to him. He answered all those who called out his name either in silence or with a louder voice. The ears of Jesus were so attentive to hear the cries of the widows, Canaanite women, paralyzed and blind. On many occasions, Jesus had the compassion to feed his followers. Once, he wanted to relax with his disciples. But the crowd followed him, and they sought him. Jesus was so moved seeing this crowd and ministered to them.

Jesus was very conscious to please God the Father. He was carefully sought the will of God and submitted to Him. He did everything to fulfill the Will of God, and Satan offered Him many glories. But he refused to listen to his voice. Jesus spoke the heart of God, and he was an authoritative teacher. He taught practical lessons to His disciples. His followers understood the Kingdom of God through simple similes, metaphors, and narrations. The use of the parables was excellent to reach His followers. Confirmed to the image of the Son of God refers to God himself. God expects us to prove that Christ is not dead and gone. But he lives in us. We are the replica of His Son, and through us, the world has come to know the compassion of God, Love of God, and cares of God. Today, millions believe in the name of Jesus not because they were healed and not because they had received their sight but because they have seen the living Christ in many followers of Christ. So, let us once again recommit ourselves to be conformed to the image of Jesus Christ, Amen.

FOREKNOWLEDGE (Based on Romans 8:28-30)

FOREKNOWLEDGE is an awareness of an event before it happens or exists. Its prediction and precognition of the things to happen in near or far futuresIt is prophetic and has no second guess of things. It’s a hundred percent sure of events well in advance without any deviation. No change of events, and no cancellation of such events at any cost or for any reason. Its prior knowledge, and previous understanding about the events that are going to happen.

Here, we have two words, one is knowledge, and another one is foreknowledge. Knowledge means knowing a person and his/her skills, talents, wisdom, and personality. The biblical word Foreknowledge is equivalent to Predestination. The Greek word is proorizo conveys the simple idea of defining beforehand. OT uses the phrases such as foreordination and election. Foreordination means the act of God in the Universal formation and functions eternally.

The divine providence is in everything of small or great. Small such as the numbering of hairs and death of a sparrow (Matthew 10:29f), greatly such as overthrowing the kingdoms and change of governments (Acts 2:23). This can be better realized through comprehending the theology of divine teleology. This explains that the divine counsels stand forever and cannot be defeated (Psalm 33:1, 46:10), all that God wills he does (Psalm 115:3, 135:6, Daniel 4:35). Also, we understand that whatever God purposed it, it comes to pass (Isaiah 14:24,27, 37:26). God is the disposer of all events (2 Samuel 17:11f).

This understating was explained to us in Isaiah 46:10. Yahweh says that he ‘declares the end from the beginning’, and in Isaiah 42:9 affirms that He ‘declares the new things before they spring forth., Also, Isaiah 44:7 says that He ‘declares and orders the things going to happen. Daniel 2:28 affirms that ‘Almighty makes known the things going to happen in the last days. Acts 3:18 confirms that ‘God announced beforehand about the things target is going to happen. Yahweh told Prophet Jeremiah that “I knew you before you were formed in your mother’s womb” (Jeremiah 1:5), Psalmist says that “He knows the words of the mouth before it is formed” (Psalm 139:4).

According to John Wesley ‘the foreknowledge of God – Strictly speaking, there is no foreknowledge, no more than after knowledge, with God: but all things are known to him as a present from eternity to eternity. God is always the God of the present. There is no time to say that God was not or God will not. He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  So, we must be very clear that no one is preordained or predestined for good and bad life and death. But all of us are predestined for Eternal life. However, the result is the award according to the act of each man and rewards according to the deeds of all. God has predestined the whole universal events at the same time he had given the freedom for individual response to those events with responsibilities and to have eternal life accordingly. The righteous and holy God will not compromise His character. Hence, foreknowledge is not the privilege of a few to do as they want.

So, we will meditate this month on the Theology of foreknowledge with our day-to-day experiences and Biblical History and Secular History. We are given the titles as “I Saw You beforehand” (Jn 1:43-51), “I Knew You beforehand” (Jeremiah 1:4-19), ‘God decided beforehand’ (Acts 4:27-31), ‘God orders the world events’ (Daniel 2:29-35), ‘Foreknowledge of Jesus’ (John 6:60-71). And finally, “You saw my unformed body” (Psalm 139:1-23)

THE PREDESTINATION OF GOD. (Based on Romans 8:28-30)

The word predestination is another controversial and confusing theological understanding. Many misunderstandings and misinterpretations are already in the theological circles and church denominations. In Ephesians 1: 4-5, Paul talks about two or three notable things, such as, Chosen by God before the creation of the world and also, predestining us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ.

John Wesley understood thepredestinationas the “true grace of God always works irresistibly in every believer! that God will finish wherever he has begun this work so that it is impossible for any believer to fall from grace! and, lastly, that the reason why God gives this to some only and not to others, is, because, of his own will, without any previous regard either to their faith or works, he hath, unconditionally, predestined them to life, before the foundation of the world!”

Further, Wesley narrates on another occasion on the subject of predestination, “This election I as firmly believe, as I believe the Scripture to be of God. But unconditional election I cannot believe; not only because I cannot find it in Scripture, but also (to wave all other considerations) because it necessarily implies unconditional reprobation. Find out any election which does not imply reprobation, and I will gladly agree to it. But reprobation I can never agree to while I believe the Scripture to be of God; as being utterly irreconcilable to the whole scope and tenor both of the Old and New Testament”.

Therefore, Wesley quoted the following scriptural passages in connection with the predestination. “Love him and keep his commandments (Deuteronomy 7:9,12), Blessings and curses of God kept before us (Deuteronomy 11:26-28), Life and Death, good and evil placed before our eyes (Deuteronomy 30:15), so either follow him or forsake him (2 Chronicles 15:1,2), either hate his knowledge or approve and accept it (Proverbs 1:23)”. However, freedom is given to men, and their Choices became a curse to men (Isaiah 65:15). Finally, God declares that the son who sins will die rather than the family (Ezekiel 18:20-23). The challenge to all of us is either to be foolish hearers and doers or wise hearers and doers (Matthew 7:26).

Hence, the theology of ‘Predestination’ reminds us that our salvation is secured in Christ (Jn. 10:28). Predestination also makes us sure that when we are in Christ, nothing is an accident and unwarranted. But everything is under the knowledge of God including sorrows, sufferings, happenings, and ties and byes all things all cause work together for good (Romans 8:28). It’s not bitter, boiling but better and sprawling (Ephesians 1:5).

“If God had given me what I demanded—justice—then I would be receiving the wrath my sins deserve this very moment. But he has given me—and millions of others along his unfolding timeline of history—something no human deserves: mercy” (Jeff Robinson, Baptist Pastor and prof. in Fuller). “God didn’t give us insight into the great mysteries of his sovereign grace to confuse us but to comfort us. Our salvation did not start with us, is not sustained by us, and will not be completed by our strength. The domino effects leading to our salvation did not begin at birth, or even at Christ’s birth, but in eternity past when God foreknew us. He knew everything about our frailties and even our sins, but he chose us, came for us, and redeemed us anyway.” (Tim Counts, Baptist Pastor). May the Good Lord keep you all in sound mind and understanding to continue in His grace as God’s chosen and blessed generation.

HE CALLED US (based on ROMANS 8: 28-30)

One of the most thought-provoking focuses is the calling of God. Everyone who loves Jesus Christ could witness that they have the experience of God’s call in their lives. God called several saints in his own time and plan for a greater purpose. Call of God recorded in varied manners and patterns. There are several offices mentioned in the Bible and several callings accordingly. The power of calling is, it is irrevocable. Bible is full of Theophanies calling of his followers from Genesis to Revelation.

Old Testament understanding of those vocations was Prophetic, Priestly, Judiciary, Kingly, warriors, and servants. New Testament understanding of those callings is entirely different such as Apostles, Prophets, Pastors and Teachers, workers of miracles, healers of physical infirmities and emotional imbalances, helpers to others economically and in many other ways and means, administrators, speakers in different tongues, interpreters and Evangelists.

The Old Testament gives us the records on the call of Abraham, Moses, Joshua, Gideon, Samuel, Saul, David, Isaiah, Jeremiah, and many other saints for various offices and purposes. When Jesus began his ministry, he called disciples, men, and women, and after his resurrection, he called Paul, Barnabas, Timothy, Titus, numerous believers, and saints. Likewise, God called all of us for a purpose in our context. Everyone on the earth needs to do God’s holy will.

1 Corinthians 1:26 describes our incompetence for called. God called us when we were not the people of wisdom or possessed with standards of this generation, we didn’t have any influence in the society, or we were not in a position to boast of our noble birth as some boast. We were fools, were weak, were lowly, and despised by people. But God never looked into all these things. But he honored us by calling us to be the children of God and bestowed us with a higher degree of respect.

Peter declares that we are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, and a people belonging to God. He called us from the darkness to wonderful light. This calling has given us an identity as people of God and the privilege of having his mercy (1 Pet. 2:9-10). The humility, gentleness, patience, love for one another and keep the unity of the spirit (Ephesians 1:18, 4:1). Our calling is to have the kingdom of God and glory (1 Thessalonians 2:12). The honor of sharing with the glory of Lord Jesus Christ (2 Thessalonians 2:14), which is eternal (1 Peter 5:10). God called us to a holy life, not because of anything we have done but because of His grace (2 Timothy 1:9). We are called to win the prize, to receive an award, and finally to be crowned (Philippians 3:14). So, this is a heavenly calling, and we have to fix our thoughts on Jesus (Heb. 3:1). Therefore, make your calling and election sure (2 Pet 1:10).

JUSTIFICATION. (Based on Romans 8:28-30)

Justification (dikaiosyne) is a gracious gift of triune God. Its prevenient grace or enabling grace of God precedes before human beings take personal decisions. The justification process starts at the new birth experience of a Christian. Then it motivates a person to strive for holiness and sanctification. The imputed righteousness of Jesus has counted to all. Then it was imparted by the power of the Holy Spirit for the process of sanctification. To this effect, John Wesley adapted 39 articles of religion (found in the book of Discipline of the MCI) and said that an individual act of faith results in becoming a part of the body of Christ. That makes a person appropriate the atonement for oneself, erasing the guilt of sin to become righteous.

God is the creator and sovereign holy God. We are the fallen race, fallen from relationship and accountability. Our responsibility defection is gauged by his greatness, holiness, and love. Naturally, we are made for him. So ‘we shall be restless until we find rest in him (St. Augustine). God created the world and all that is in it, he rules over them and saves them. The world exhibits the creative work of God and the glories of God. That greatness is celebrated (Psalm 33, 147, and 148). Paul puts this understanding in Romans 11:36, ‘For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen’.

Both for his glory and our good we must be right with God and right with one another. He is God of grace and mercy. So, he alone lays the rules and requirements for that relationship. He gives access to his presence through his only begotten son, who is our dear Lord and Saviour. The promise of Salvation was assured in the grace. Abraham believed in that promise of grace and is accounted righteous in God’s sight (Genesis 15:6 & Romans 4;3). The righteousness of the promise given to Abraham and received by faith is the gift-righteousness of which the prophets speak. Isaiah 54:17, “No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD “.

The focus of the Old Testament about righteousness as a gift of God expresses that God himself comes and saves his people. The Israelites’ apostasy and their rebellion never made God put them away forever impartially grace came to them at the various era and redeemed them because of righteousness. The focus of the New Testament is Jesus coming to the needy and declaring the righteousness of the Kingdom of God. Jesus taught ‘blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled’ (Matthew 5:6). Also, he said ‘For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven ‘(Matthew 5:20). Jesus came as the forgiver of Sins and the Saviour of His people (Romans 3:21-22). So, through him, we made righteously and justified (1 Peter 3:18). We have peace with God (Romans 5:1). Therefore, believers are justified freely through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus (Romans 3:24)

The Joint Declaration on the Doctrine of Justification expresses one declaration by the Catholic church, Lutheran World Federation in 1999 after extensive ecumenical dialogue. Now all the churches share a common understanding of the doctrine of Justification that is only by God’s grace and faith in Christ. The root of the protestant reformation was justification now resolved after 500 years and accepted by World Methodist Council (having 80 million members over 138 countries) on July 18, 2006, and the World Communion of Reformed Churches (having 100 million members over 130 countries representing members of Congregational, Presbyterian, Reformed, United, Uniting, and Waldensian churches”) in 2017.

Justification is foundational to enter into the Christian life, and it is the fundamental blessing from which all other blessings flow (P.T. O’Brien, Theologian). Justification is not a ‘legal fiction’ somewhat it is an entry point to a life committed to holiness. Justification by faith no doubt but the judgment according to works (E.P. Sanders, Theologian). Therefore, Justification by Faith is the ultimate Judgement based on the work of each individual. Let’s strive to do good to all and prove that we are children of God, Amen.

HOPE OF RESURRECTION

Theology of resurrection is unique in Christian Religion. This eschatological belief is not found in any other religion. The Christian life is built on this very foundation. All other faiths talk about eternal life they call by different names such as Paradise, Mukti state, Heaven, Godly abode, eternal home, etc. So, all religions are moving towards one direction, one end, death leads to the place of eternity.

Even those who believe in the cycle of births also believe that eternity is assured. But, among all beliefs and religions, Christianity is unique in declaring that there is bodily resurrection.  It has to appear before God at the end of the age or yuga to give an account one has done on the earth. The accountability and its integrity will decide the course of the future.

Asian religions such as Hinduism, Buddhism, Jainism, Sikhism, animism, Confucianism, and Taoism, with their internal cults and external offshoots, believe in transmigration and reincarnation, a process terminating eventually perhaps in nirvana, a state of a universal oneness or perhaps nothingness. They promote the immortality of a soul. But, Individual resurrection. It is never considered even a possibility. So, there is no anastasis. The theology of Hell is found in all religions.

As far as Judaism, OT has few references to resurrection. The prophet Daniel predicts that “many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt” (Daniel 12:2). Prophet Isaiah promises that “Thy dead men shall live, together with my dead body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy dew is as the dew of herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead” (Isaiah 26:19). Prophet Hosea 13:14 writes that “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction.” However wonderful assurance found in the book of Job: “For I know that my redeemer lives and that He shall stand at the latter day upon the earth. Yet in my flesh shall I see God: Whom I shall see for myself, and my eyes shall behold, and not another” (Job 19:25-27). Muhammad Nabi affirms the bodily resurrection and its accountability to God on the Day of Judgement.

“And just as it is appointed and destined for all men to die once and after this judgment” (Hebrews 9:27).  So, life on earth is fixed as only once. Death leads to judgment. No rebirth, no cycle of birth according to our faith. It is not the belief of a Christian that life reincarnates or the soul transmigrates to another or the animal form. Every form of creation is final. Yes, of course.  The flesh of the human body or any dead animals finally decayed to a worm and vanished. But the soul of a person or the spirit of animals would never get into another person or strange body to torment or destroy. Jesus cast out demons by commanding them to go out and to go to the destined place.

Jesus has emerged out of these cultural and religious beliefs around the world. He had to face the various teaching of the Greek Philosophers, Judaist sects, and other ancient religions. Added to that, Jesus had faced questions from the Pharisees and Sadducees about the resurrection and its efficacy. Both of them approached Jesus to establish their belief and teaching.  He had proved that there is the resurrection of the body in Johannine theology. Pauline’s theology strongly supported the resurrection of the body. Since Paul comes from the background of Pharisees and personally had the vision of the resurrected Christ. New Testament has several references to affirm the resurrection and its importance to humanity and the entire creation. The New Millennium and eternity is the greatest hope in Christian Life. The resurrection of Christ is the only foundation for all these eschatological beliefs and faith.

“Now to Him who can keep you from stumbling or falling into sin, and to present you unblemished [blameless and faultless] in the presence of His glory with triumphant joy and unspeakable delight” (Jude 1:24- Amplified).

COVID-19 AND THE SPIRITUALITY

Mask is the mark of humanity henceforth. How long? Only time will answer us. The discovery of the vaccine and reaching the last man of the earth with that vaccine will bring an end to the mask culture. It’s a long way to go. Corona Virus or COVID-19 is a familiar and popular word in 2020. The Televisions and Press media are always bombarded with reports connecting with COVID-19. Now, what is the answer of the Church to this global epidemic? According to Mathew 16:18-19, Church is built on People, Powers were vested with Apostle Peter, passed onto the Leaders of the Church in Christendom.

Can every believer bind the forces in heaven and on earth? Elijah shut the heavens for three years and six months (1 Kings 17:1, 18:1, James 5:17-18). Jesus Christ was on the earth for three and a half years doing the Ministry and having authority over every power. People testified that they never have seen such authority given to men.

Jesus gave powers to his disciples on three occasions with special emphasis to cast out the demon and to heal the sick. First, while he was on the earth (Mathew 10:1-4, Luke 10:1, 19), secondly, after the resurrection (Mathew 28:18-20, Mark 16:15-20), thirdly, after the ascension (Acts 1:8, 2:1-3).  Where are we today? Someone wrote in a newspaper that COVID-19 had overpowered and prevailed against all spiritual exercises irrespective of religion. Is there a shortcut for the disease to vanish? Can any healer, miracle worker claim, ‘bring a COVID-19 patient, I will heal”? Where do we stand today in the light of COVID-19 as ONE Church globally?

COVID-19 brought great disaster to the global economy. Productions stopped. Companies closed. Many had lost their jobs even before the COVID-19 was emerging. Now the case got the worst scenario. Almost all Churches and mission agencies have tested their ability to stand in a crisis like this and tasted the deficit. Believers’ hands are empty, so Church income has come down because of the closure of the Church services. Promotional workers of missionary agencies are unable to move around because of lockdown. Now this epidemic brought more uncertainties to the job of people, which will also reciprocally affect the Church administration and mission work. Bible records many sieges during the judges’ and kings’ periods. 2 Kings 6:24-25 gives the severity of famine during the lockdown of Samaria for many months until people ate their kids. The fall of Judea is recorded in 2 Kings 25:1-7 and 2 Chronicles 36:15. It was besieged for two years and people were affected by a great famine. Naturally, restriction of movements of citizens results in an economical loss.

The role of plagues was always to balance the creation according to the studies emerging out of the post-plague and post-natural disasters. Coronavirus is a very unusual species on the earth. This micro-organism became very tough to handle before the nations and scientists could realize ‘what it is, it has gone out of control. The R0, the reproduction rate seems to be 1.5 to 3.5, hence, the effect is so dangerous. The vanishing point is more distant now. How long it will spread and when it will exhaust is a great question for everyone. How we as Church are going to answer spiritually to these issues.

Few suggestions for our response to COVID-19: First and foremost is Prayer. Pray for those who are affected globally, and for those who lost their dear ones because of this deadly disease. Pray for the intervention of God; and the discovery of the right vaccine. Pray for the resurgence of the economy and production and labor sectors. Pray for the rebuilding of ecological balance. Secondly let us participate in relief works, even on a smaller scale, according to the grace given to us. Thirdly, present Gospel to all your friends and neighbors, making use of the opportunity and available social media, explaining the signs of the last days and the second coming of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, without a judgemental attitude.

“…Take heed lest you fall.” 1 Corinthians 10:12

Often discouraged and pulled down on hearing the news about the spread and death of fellow habitats, this poses a challenge to our faith journey. Fear of sickness and death, monotonous work at a stable place brings many questions and ends up in discouragement. Never give up and take heedPaul writes these terrible words to warn the believers living at Corinth. Often, the fall is not noticed and known to the persona who is affected by it.

It is always clearly seen by others who are looking at us from near and far. While flipping through pages of the Bible, we encounter many fallen characters from the grace and calling because of their arrogance, lust, and desires for evil ways and means to reach power.

Even before the world was created, God created many angelic forces; he divided and ranked them according to their capacities reason known to Him. Not only that but God also created Lucifer as one of the mighty angels. God gave power to Lucifer to rule His created world. Lucifer had access to all created beings, such as planets, heavens, earth, visible beings, and invisible beings. But suddenly Lucifer developed a desire to be like God. So, he became disobedient and wanted to lift his throne equal to the throne of God. Though Lucifer was a morning star, God rejected him and denied him entry to his throne room. He was outcast forever from the Light of God. So, he became dark forever (Isaiah 14:12-15).

In the beginning, God spoke to the first couple Adam and Eve about being careful not to fall. He created everything for their existence and sustenance. However, they were quickly attracted to the Tree of Knowledge rather than to countless blessings of the Garden of Eden (Genesis 2:16-17, 3:5-8). Then, we read about the Sodom community. The king of Sodom and his subjects had evil passions for sexual immorality. They were interested in unnatural pleasures. God gave them up according to their lustful deceits. Hence, God rained fire from heaven to eradicate Sodomites from the phase of the earth. So, the Sodom community had fallen (Genesis 19).

Samson was a great man of God. He was a Nazarite from his birth. Samson’s parents brought him up according to the promise of God. He had good parental care and didactical education. But, his youthful desires and his willingness to yield to lust misled him to break the covenant of Nazarite wow and ended up in the great fall of a leader (Judges 13:4, 14:2, 16:1).

God exalted Saul to the position of a king of the twelve tribes of Israel, and he was bestowed with a beautiful wife talented child, and an extremely skilled army to tackle his enemies. God favored him beyond what he never thought over. However, he did not respect the Prophet of Yahweh. Saul became a man of jealousy and wanted to establish his kingdom against the will of God (1 Samuel 18:9; 20:30-31; 13:13-14). King David had a spiritual fall. Then he immediately realized an emptiness in his heart and soul. David cried to the Lord with a contrite heart for retribution and reinstating the image of God in him. The Lord was merciful on David. He loved David with extreme compassion. The Lord sent his prophet Nathan to David to bring David back to the relationship (Psalm 51)

Psalmists used to sing about the fall of the saints and mighty. However, he ends those hymns and songs with beautiful notations of hope. The Lord always helps saints whoever calls on his name despite their sins and iniquities (Proverbs 24:17; Psalm 37:17, Jeremiah 8:4). The arrogance leads to falling humility and repentance brings grace (Proverbs 16:18, Romans 3:23).

Dear friends, where we stand in our faith is matters a lot. God counts everything what we do and what we think. Let’s relook into ourselves and have a self-assessment of our spiritual strength. Assessment should have the scales on prayer, bible reading, fasting, ministry, witness, and secret and outward actions. God bless you.

LEARN TO LIVE WITH…

“Have to Learn to live with coronavirus” I was surprised to hear this statement. It was uttered by some of the key persons of Society. As of date, more than 4 million are affected by COVID-19 and around 3 Lakhs are dead. It has spread across 210 countries. Many countries had a lockdown of nearly 40-90 days. Some countries had gone up to months. Finally, we are told to learn to live with Coronavirus.

We have also learned to live with a loveless and compassionless society. People learned to adopt all evil modes and norms of life for survival and called it mandatory. Justice, righteousness, and high morale had become rare commodities in modern communities. Realty had increased in society but genuineness and realities are scarcities. We have learned to live with prayerless and purposeless life. The Church at Large had learned to live with corruption, abortion, social evils, and many more compromises. The evils of caste, dowry, manipulation, disrespect to the Word of God increase day by day among Christians.

The world leaders are struggling to find the right kind of remedies for this great deadly Coronavirus. The virus traveled all over the world with its iron hand and had subdued all the nations to bend to their knees. At last, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has to declare that we have to live with this virus for a long time. The same song is sung by all nations because of the inability and insufficiency of the human brain to solve this issue. The world is waiting for sunrise, waiting for a researcher to come out with the right vaccine to save the world from this virus. Alas! We don’t know the timings.

Oh! but what a joy to know that the deadly SIN was dealt with by the great Messiah, Our Lord Jesus Christ with his power and authority. We need not have to learn to live with SIN. There is a remedy in Christ. All our sins were punished at Golgotha on the Cross (Matthew 1:21, 2 Corinthians 5:21). Yes!! we have a savior born on this earth; he is Christ the Lord (Luke 2:11). “Behold, The Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29, 1 John 1:7,9).

There is a call for everyone who lives like a Prodigal Son to unlearn the evil things of life and get back to God the Father (Luke 15:11-32). Samson learned to live with sin and in the end, he realized, recommitted his life to bring God’s kingdom on Earth but it was too late (Judges 16:20-30). Esau took the blessings of God very lightly and sold out just for a meal, he despised and later he wanted to come out of it but lost the blessings (Genesis 25:29-34 & Hebrews 12:16-17). Jesus Christ never allowed anybody to live with their sickly conditions, or defeated positions and disappointed status. We worship a God who is able and capable to change all that we can’t even imagine. Paul was lamenting about his wretched condition. But thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our LORD for the assurance of eternal life (Romans 7:24-25).

He promised Abraham and revealed to him as God who can do everything (Genesis 18:14). He revealed himself to Zechariah as God of impossibilities (Luke 1:36, Mark 14:36). Through Prophet, Jeremiah God declared “is anything too hard for me?” (Jeremiah 32:27). Job acknowledges God and told him “I know that you can do all things…” (Job 42:2). He multiplied the loaves and fed thousands (Matthew 14:20). He brought calmness during the storm (Mark 4:39). He turned water into Wine (John 2:7). He turns the things upside down, he turns Lebanon into a fertile field (Isaiah 29:16-18). He turns our wailing into dancing and cloths us with joy (Psalm 30:11). The Lord turns my darkness into light (2 Samuel 22:29). Let’s look for the restoration of our economy, health, and wealth from the Lord.

The changes are only possible with God. Let’s continue to pray for the wisdom of God to be revealed to the researchers around the world to know the right medicine and combinations to arrest this disease and to rebuild society. Let’s pray that God would send his enlightenment and grace to rebuild the economy of the world. God bless you and change your life course for the betterment.

JOHN WESLEY  (MEN of GOD series)

He was much disturbed and confused in his life, and finally, he arrived with a crystal-clear understanding of God’s plan for his own life and his followers or Methodists. We would base our thoughts on the passage of Romans 8:28-30. These three verses have a very deeper theology of St. Paul, and later claimed by Martin Luther, and also by John Wesley.

It’s appropriate for us to remember the four fundamental thoughts of our founder Rev. John Wesley while we think of his theology: 1. A person is free to reject or accept salvation by an act of his free will. 2. All obedient to the gospel according to the measure of knowledge given to them will be saved. 3. Salvation is assured to the person by the Holy Spirit through an inner experience. 4. Christians are capable of Christian perfection in this life and are commanded by God to pursue it. He also taught us to strongly believe in creation, man’s fall, the reality of Sin, the grace of God, Redemption, and Salvation to all. Justification by faith alone and sufficiency of the scriptures.

Today, worldwide Methodists are known for 5 things: 1. Logic and Reason, 2. Evangelism and Missions, 3. Covenantal services, 4. Inclusiveness, and 5. Music. It’s also good to remind us that Methodist mission has four essential dimensions: Proclamation (proclaim the Gospel); Evangelism (invite people to a personal decision for and commitment to Jesus Christ for their salvation); Incorporation (call persons to be incorporated into the Body of Christ); and Servanthood (serve as agents of God’s liberation and reconciling grace among the nations).

Here I would like to end with John Wesley’s saying: “A Methodist has the love of God shed abroad in his life by the Holy Ghost given unto him. One who loves the Lord his God with all his heart, and with all his soul, and with all his mind, and with all his strength. God is the joy of his heart and the desire of his soul.”

Prince of Bethlehem

Dear brothers and Sisters in Christ. Seasonal Greetings to all of you. Christmas 2021 is going to be memorable to many children. Last two years, we could not celebrate Christmas with full vigor and joy. Day breaks and sunsets were full of news of a threat to life. Also, about waves and deaths. How many lives do we lose due to COVID-19 and through many other ailments? We felt that they had gone due to untimely death, a tragic end. But only God can comfort all those who had lost their dear ones.

We can’t forget the yearlong cries of the mourners. It reached our ears from our relatives, friends, and colleagues. Some of you have gone through times of uncertainty and hopelessness. We stand today not by our strength and might but by the love and grace of God. Yes, Christmas always reminds us of the favour shown to us by the ever-loving and everlasting God.

The theme for the month is Prince of Bethlehem. The city Bethlehem is referred to House of Bread and the Land of Fertility. It is located in the “hill country” of Judah. It was known as Ephrath in Genesis 35:16,19, 48:7 and Ruth 4:11, later popularised as Beth-lehem Ephratah (Micah 5:2), Beth-lehem-Judah ( 1 Samuel 17:12 ), and “the city of David” ( Luke 2:4 ). David was born at Bethlehem, and he was anointed as king by Prophet Samuel ( 1 Samuel 16:4-13). The water of a Well in Bethlehem was special to David while he was in the cave of Adullam ( 2 Samuel 23:13-17 ). So, three mighty army officers risked their lives and brought water from Bethlehem.

In this city, Jesus was born. He is the Prince of Peace and the prince of Bethlehem. The “massacre of the innocents” took place at Bethlehem by King Herod (Matthew 2:8,16). However, It had become a historical place for Jews, Muslims, Christians and Arabs. The modern name of it is Beit-Lahm, meaning “house of flesh.” The spiritual lesson we can drive out of the change of this name and its meaning reminds our relationship with God. Our spiritual strength could become doom and dark if not maintained with God. Constantine the Great built a Church in this city known as the Church of the Nativity (330 AD). The spirituality is lost, but the monument lasted.

This Prince of Bethlehem is called Emmanuel (Matthew 1:18-24), Miracle worker (Luke 1:26-38), Holy one (Luke 1:46-55), Embodiment of grace (John 1:1-14), Source of Salvation (Luke 1:67-80), Saviour of the World (Luke 2:8-20), He is the Mighty God (Isaiah 9:1-7), and the King (Matthew 2:1-12), and He is an absolute revelation of Godhead (Luke 2:21-35). We would like to devote ourselves to know a little better about all these names and Characters of Jesus Christ during December 2021.

These are themes for our devotion during the Christmas season. We usually remember the names given at his birth as Jesus, Christ, Messiah, Wonderful, Counsellor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, and Prince of Peace. But now, let us tune our ears to listen to the wonder-working acts of Jesus Christ with the divine substances that came to all of us. Through meditating on the names of Jesus Christ, we can experience the intervention of God in our daily prayers. It would take us deeper to love him and to grow in holiness. It would help us to improve through our communications with God and one another. We can pass on this love and Salvation to others. The world looks for this comforting, miracle-working God to encounter in their daily lives. I wish you all to have a merry Christmas full of the sweetness of fellowship with one another and with God.

Serve the Lord

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ, I am happy to be connected with you all through our monthly communique IN TOUCH. This month we will be observing two special Sundays, such as Sunday School and the Evangelism and Missions. Our monthly sermons, meditations would be “Serve the LORD.” Jesus said I am the way, the Truth and the Life. We had several theological understandings about the Way and ways, the Truth and nearer to the truths, and the difference between the worldly and spiritual lives.

The claims of Jesus is correct, and no one can come nearer to his personality, and nothing can come nearer to the claims of Christ as the Way, the Truth and the Life.

Then how do we need to serve such a wonderful and awesome God in our daily lives and walks? The word serves always brings us to the understanding of the Sunday Worship or worshipping God on special days and festive. End of November, usually marked by an Ecumenical Carol through which we used to remember that we have come into Christmas seasons. Though this year, we are not going to have an Ecumenical Carol on one Sunday. But it would be on all Sundays of December. From first advent Sunday, we would invite a group on each Sunday to present their carols. It is a service to the name of God and to serve Him through music and songs of the First Advent of Christ.

The Psalmists calls us to serve the Lord with the beauty of the Holiness, with fear and trembling in Psalm 100. This Psalm proclaims that we need to worship the Lord with shouts of acclamation. He calls the whole earth to recognise the maker, bow down before him and worship him. It starts with worship service and progress to acknowledge him in all our ways.

During his final oration to the people of Israel, Moses told them that they should serve Him alone without compromise (Deuteronomy 6:1-14). Prophet Jeremiah told his readers that serve the Lord sincerely. If someone wants to serve the Lord grudgingly and leisurely, such one is a cursed man (Jeremiah 48:10-13). God’s ministry and service to God, his agencies of Gospel cannot be taken for granted and done with free time. Prophet Jonah openly declared at the time of Trouble that he serves the Living God who created the Eartha and the heavens (Jonah 1:1-9).

Jesus told his followers and disciples to preach the Gospel to expedite the return of Christ (Matthew 24:1-14). Also, he told his disciples to serve the Son of Man. Then they would be honoured by the Father (John 12:26). Paul urged young Timothy to serve Jesus Christ pleasingly in every walk of his life. He warned him to set an example in everything he does in earthly lives. He told Timothy to look carefully at what he speaks and does in his life (2 Timothy 2:1-7).

Jesus has warned his followers and hearers to serve only one master at a time. He explained that no one could serve two masters (Luke 16:13-15). Jesus demanded absolute service to him. No one can have two faces, two values systems, to convictions and morality. Only one option for a living is to either love him or hate him. Either serve the master truthfully or live a hypocrites life. Hope to meet you every Sunday and enjoy the word of God. Service means to worship, ministry, the duty to society, faithful in all walks of life and exhibit the character of God in every life situation. There cannot be two lifestyles, two ways, two attitudes. Only one way is to serve the Lord.

Stay True (John 15:1)

The 24th Session of the Chennai Regional Conference of the CRC of the Methodist Church in India began with the theme Stay True. This theme is based on John 15:1. Jesus discoursed this teaching with his disciples and followers to ascertain their commitment to him. Jesus used many words to refer to the importance of being with him, such as, abide in me, stay in me, rooted in me, and en-grafted in me. Staying True is understood as fruit-bearing. It is proportionately exhibited based on relationships with God.

We live in a world where everything is duplicated and unreliable too! The present generation is acquainted with original and duplicate items. The duplicates are highly attractive and seem to be better than the original and more impressive and desirable. So, the originality of the products is neglected and given less importance. But the people with discernment will always choose the best. Staying True as a Christian in every walk of life is the demand of the Master who had called all of us to follow him.

Jesus told his disciples not to turn back was his severally emphasized theme to the disciples. He was sharp to answer his followers’ doubts and questions. Jesus discouraged them not to follow for worldly and temporal blessings. He taught transparency, what would happen if someone decides to follow him in a world of unbelievers (Luke 9:57-62).

Psalmist expresses the rewards, awards, recognitions, and blessings that flow from the Lord, one who holds the righteousness. He never withheld goodness from those who walk uprightly. These blessings are the result of the Cross and the ablation of Christ. We are redeemed and given honor through the name of Jesus Christ (Psalm 84).

Old Testament has several examples of people holding their integrity till death for the sake of righteousness. Many prophets and servants of God had meted out death for their uncompromising spirit and values. They were stoned to death and persecuted without mercy for their love and devotion to Yahweh. The best example we all enjoy is the character of Job. He said, ‘I will hope in him even if he slays me’ (Job 13:15-28).

Paul shouted with a victorious voice proclaiming that nothing could separate him from the love of God. Till death, he would hold his love for God. That confidence had come from the Lord Jesus Christ (Romans 8:31-39). The author of the book of Hebrews also declared that we should hold fast our faith in Christ because Jesus is our forerunner and completed the race and crowned (Hebrews 3:12-19). Jesus charged the Church at Smyrna to remain faithful even unto death (Revelation 2: 8-11).

In the beginning, while instituting Marriage, God commanded the husband and wife to stay together till their death. So, the liturgy of the wedding ceremony always carries the word, “Until death do us part” we shall be faithful and live together. A married relationship is holy, honorable, and enduring (Genesis 2:18-24). Peter writes to the diaspora to stand firm without stumbling after experiencing persecution and death threats for believing in Christ (2 Peter 1:10).

Paul ended his letter to the Colossians with a warning to Archippus to complete his mission. Paul urged the fellow workers at Colossae to keep encouraging Archippus to continue in the ministry of Christ (Colossians 4:17).

"Do well in everything and Every place” (1 Kings 2:3).

Dearly brothers and sisters in Christ, I greet you all in the name of our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ!

I am sure that we have pushed into a compulsion to take some crucial decisions as we enter this New Year 2022. Compulsions such as growing spiritually and temporal matters related to career, marriage, child-rearing including their education, maintaining or leaving the relationships, improving health, stabilizing wealth, and tourism for relaxation and to spend time with family, etc.

2022 is another challenging critical year with the variant of Omicron. So many long term goals are pending, modified, cut short because of the difficulties, defeats and failures we faced for the last two years due to the Pandemic turning into an endemic living with Corona. Already irreparable losses and hardships we had experienced because of these situations. We need to redo and rewrite the long term plans for another five years or ten years, or till retirement. Retired persons have to plan to survive with health with limited resources. Church committees to have Conference year plan, and Church has to think of Quadrennial plans.

If you are a newlywed, you have a different plan. If you have a young child or if your kid goes to school, you have varied ideas. If your children are in high school or college studies, you need to plan accordingly. Are you thinking to make new friends? Do you want to reconcile with old friends? God would help it to happen in 2022.

Some of us are looking for new opportunities and additional responsibilities to exercise God-given ability and capability for kingdom values and the benefit of people and God. Some of us may have financial challenges to take care of needs and unplanned and non-budgeted expenses because of static business and non-negotiable medical emergencies.

Now let me take you to the theme for 2022: “Do well in everything and Everyplace” (1 Kings 2:3). It was a piece of advice offered to young and new King Solomon by his experienced emperor king, who happened to be his father. The writer of the Books of the Kings states that David told his son Solomon: “I am going the way of all the earth. So be strong. Show yourself to be a man. Do what the Lord your God tells you: to walk in His ways, to keep His statutes, His commandments, His judgments, and His testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses. Then you will do well in all that you do and in every place you go”(1 Kings 2:2-3).

It is good to read and complement this theme passage from 1 Chronicle 28:20-21: And David said to his son Solomon, “Be strong and of good courage, and do it; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD God—my God—will be with you. He will not leave you nor forsake you until you have finished all the work for the service of the house of the LORD. The divisions of the priests and Levites are ready for all the work on the temple of God, and every willing person skilled in any craft will help you in all the work. The officials and all the people will obey your every command.” (1 Chronicles 28:20-21).

In brief, we can understand that Solomon advised being strong, keeping the word and doing the service, getting along with experienced and talented people. Then you will do well in everything and in every place you go.

Solomon has called to complete the work of the service of the house of the Lord. King Solomon built a beautiful temple for God. But today, What service God expects from us? Yes, we need to construct sanctuaries for congregations to meet. We need to build a healthy society, to build a healthy believing community/Congregation. It is our service, our target, our aim. Because we are the Temple of God, and all are honourable vessels for God. Your physical body with sound health and a well-built body is needed for God. God has given us what we are not worthy of.? For what? To serve him means to do his work until we complete the assignment of God.

Yes, God indeed needs full-time Pastors, Evangelists and gospel workers. But more than that, God looks for committed government officials, company CEOs, Noble Doctors, Loving Nurses, Sacrificial health personnel, exemplary teachers, lecturers, and professors, and honest professionals. That means whatever you do, you have to complete the service of God. We have to complete the service for God. Then “you will do well in all that you do and in every place you go”(1 Kings 2:2-3).

The theme is a mixture of commandment and promise to all of us. It is not an unconditional but a conditional promissory note. The actions of Solomon and the rewards of God are put together in these bible passages. Everyone on the earth would like to do well. No one has the idea of being dull, useless and fruitless. We count our progress and recount the blessings of God. Success and victory are guaranteed. The completion of joy promised for all of us. We preach more powerfully through silence than louder. Our reactions are vehicles of God’s qualities and characters to the people around us. Once again, I bless you to do well in all your endeavours in all places.

Secrets for Success

I would like to share the secrets to a successful life. To begin with, the ways to success are based on 1 Peter 5:1-11, as Submissiveness humility, and discipline or self-control. These hardcore spiritual principles were difficult to put into practice together, but Jesus came to this world and set an example of these principles. Jesus was obedient and submissive to the will of God. Jesus has shown his humility from birth till death. Paul describes it in Philippians 2 that Jesus took the form of humanity.

We could trace these inbuilt characters in some of the popular and favorite Bible Characters but for want of time, let us think few of them during our Sunday sermon meditations. Let us limit ourselves to three such personalities, namely Joseph for integrity and fear of God (Genesis 39:19-23), David for zeal and love of God (1 Samuel 18:12-16), and Hezekiah for traditional values and devotion to the Law of Moses (2 Kings 18:1-8). All these men are the best examples of successful men.

It is true that unless the Lord is our banner we cannot establish the victory banner for us (Exodus 17:8-16). David in psalms severally mentioned the ways and means for a successful life (Psalm 1). He also had experienced the greatness of God (1 Samuel 18:12-16). Solomon urges his readers to commit their plans to God to enjoy the success of the Lord through the book of Proverbs. The one who commits his ways finds favor, success, and blessings from the Lord. Solomon has taught that success is only through practical life (Proverbs 16:1-3). God revealed to Joshua the secret for victorious battles, but we read his defeats and humiliation due to the disobedience of his camp fellows.

God deals with the Church as one mass and a single entity than many individuals. However, God values every individual for love, obedience, and holiness. These are ways to receive the blessings of the entire community (Joshua 1:1-9). One thing is always invariably proved in the history of the Israelites as well as in world history whenever an individual Sins against God and sends the punishment on the community. At the same time, the obedience of an individual affects the individual alone. Mere by the obedience, and holiness of an individual no family or community, or Church could receive the blessings. The obedience and submissiveness, and death of Christ brought redemption to all except him no one can claim those blessings.

John writes to his readers in his first epistle to overcome the world. Overcoming the world, according to Apostle John, is to overcome the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life (1 John 2:15-17). In fact, the enormous world riches, luxuries, and pompousness could be brought into these three areas of life and human emotions and activities. Lust of the flesh refers to food, cloth, drinks, and many more. The lust of the eyes refers to gold, silver, and numerous stones. The pride of life refers to power, leadership, owning cars, and positions better than others. Man looks for those things and works for them. I would like to define human life with this phrase: “Human race born as nobody, strive to be somebody and finally ends as Dead body”. Our success is our identity and we leave those traits for our future generations. If we leave positive successful monuments for our generations is appreciable. God wants us to leave this world as successful people. Paul declared that he had run the race and completed it.

God bless you and give you success on the earth.

Throw Off Hindrances

This is the theme for the season of Lent which starts on March 2, 2022. We will meditate during the Lent services and on Sundays on the things which are hindrances to our spiritual life and development. Sometimes they may be men and women, sometimes they may be occasions and vocations. Sometimes those may be the habits and conduct. Whatever may be, if you find it a hindrance to your spiritual growth. Throw off.

Abraham, the father of Faith was struggling to realize the full benefit of his obedience, faith, and righteous act as long as his cousin brother Lot was part of his life. With good intention and love, Abraham had him. But the life and motives of that man were not coinciding with the love and devotion of Abraham. Lot departed from Abraham, then Abraham was blessed by God (Genesis 13:14-18). The man Lot, who was almost equivalent in wealth, herds and flocks, and servants became null and void at the end of life. He had lost his entire property, wife, and the life of his daughters because of his inherent character and conduct. On a few occasions, we are having certain habits without realizing it’s evil. So, depart from LOT.

The story is of a Moabite woman called Ruth. She was a young lady with a vision. She accepted Naomi and her God. She left the God and goddess of the Moabites. She chose Yahweh to be her God. The story of Ruth began on a negative note and the family has lost all the breadwinners. Ruth, the young widow decided to be with Naomi and resolved to follow the God of Naomi. Orpah left Naomi and her God but Ruth clung to this God (Ruth 1:6-18). Change of place and friendship may bring glorious life to us. Instead of living and cherishing in the old habits and past vain glories move on to the new era with new resolutions for greater avenues and blessings.

Identifying our enemy at right time will help us to come closer to God and safeguard the seed of righteousness and salvation. The Parable of the Sower of the seed reminds us that the Enemy can spoil the growth and blessings of men. How many useful sermons, communications, and powerful words of the servants of God have gone on vain and futile grounds. Rather than being fruitful, the words of life were eaten up by the Birds, which means the enemy of the Gospel. Some seeds fell on the rocky ground and some seeds on the thorny bush and destroying the greenery part of the plant and completely ruining the future of the tree (Matthew 13:18-23). How do you respond to the call of God on Sundays? How do you receive the Word of God which comes to you with energy, life, and might?

Prophet Jeremiah was known as a suffering and weeping prophet. He spoke with confidence on the words of God. He had more clarity on his call and mission. He warns the readers not to give a place for men to overtake your life for granted. He told people not to put their trust in men and the flesh. Flesh refers to self, human wisdom, and power. Always put your trust in God and his power. Believing men is believing in the bush of the wastelands but trusting God is like a tree planted by the living stream. Having faith in God and His word is everlasting greenery life on the earth and to eternal (Jeremiah 17:5-10). Most men believe in men and their strength because they have an object before them. Many times, they don’t yield their lives to the living God because he is invisible and could be reached by faith alone. We are challenged to come to God.

Another hindrance to our spirituality is Gluttony. Proverbs say that put a knife on the throat when you sit to dine with the ruler. He warns not to grave for his delicacies for that food is deceptive. He further warns not to eat the food of a stingy man. Do not crave his delicacies. He is always thinking of the cost rather than the human values. He does not have inner love but evil thoughts. Going to multicuisine must not be with anyone or with any unknown person. Not go with a man who is a friend to your friend. Relationships determine the cuisine and dining. Some people may comment on something in front of you and bad behind you. They comment about the way you eat, and the way you desire the food, and they weigh your comments. So better not to eat with men unknown to you (Proverbs 23:1-8).

Paul while talking about death and resurrection, suddenly refers to the bad company. He says that bad company and unwanted friendship circles will spoil your spiritual growth. Men can build you or break you. Men can elevate your spirit’s the higher spiritual realm or pull you down to the bottomless pit. Our measuring rod must always be the word of God. Never trust a man who puts himself first and who gives a place for pride and evil intentions. Throw off the pride and never allow those haughty looks and thoughts to overtake you. Be subject to the Spirit of God and his words. Humility will build you and take you to the blessed rocks. (1 Corinthians 15:30-34 & James 4:1-12). Jesus spent the whole night in prayer after spending considerable time in ministry during the day. He warned his disciples to spend time in prayer. What a pitiable condition of the Disciples, even being friends of Jesus and even after experiencing the power of the prayer of Jesus, they could not stay awake in prayer during the time of problems and panic situations.  So, Jesus asked them to pray (Matthew 26:36-46).

Let this lent help us to grow deeper with the Lord.

The theme reminds the critical situation the people of God were going through during the time of King Xerxes. Esther, the captive, was exalted as queen of the empire after Queen Vashti was dethroned for her disobedience to the command of her husband King. Esther was replaced as per the providence of God to save his chosen race and inheritance. But there was an officer named Haman in the king’s palace who was looking for an opportunity to eradicate this Jewish race because of his enmity between him and a guard named Mordecai. Haman thought it was a little thing to kill this single Jew, so he wanted to eliminate the entire Jews from the face of the earth.  At this juncture, Mordecai sought the help of Esther to redeem her kinsmen through speaking to King Xerxes. She told the custom and rules of the Kingdom and wanted to escape from the responsibility. But Mordecai told her that if she remains silent at this time, she can’t escape from the punishment coming upon her nation even though she was at the Palace (Esther 4:12-14).

This passage is relevant even today in our daily context. God has placed each one of us in some important position, and responsibility in the heathen world. We move with and work among the ungodly, in midst of the enemies of the Gospel. But, how do we respond to the issues faced by fellow citizens, believers, and followers of Christ? What we are reading through the media, watching through social media are seems to be far away from us. But those things will come upon us suddenly and destabilize us and destroy us at any moment and we can’t escape from the dangers of life. So, make use of the opportunities to share the gospel, love of God, and the salvation of God to all.

This month we have lent services, deeper life conventions, and passion week meetings to draw us closer to the Lord and to draw others to Christ. It urges us to recommit ourselves to the great God and live for him as a living testimony. Palm Sunday is not only a commemoration of the triumphal entry of Jesus into the Jerusalem City as King, Messiah but also the celebration of the victory over the evil forces which exist in the name of religious practices and burdens upon the worshippers. The humility of Christ is picturesque. It was amazing to see the work of God through Christ and setting an example for his followers on how to deal with the corruptions and confusions in the Churches and fellowships (Mark 11:1-11).

John 11:45-57 narrates the inquiry scene of Jesus Christ at the Sanhedrin and Jesus stood before the religious leaders and priests. They condemned Jesus for creating false witnesses and accused him, finally sentenced him to death. The High priest made this statement that it is good ‘if one dies for all’. It was a prophecy and revelation came through the high priest. Yes, Jesus died for all. He was the only eligible and acceptable propitiation to God, the Father. No one can replace his position as an acceptable sacrifice to the highest.

The day of resurrection reminds us to run with the good news that he has risen.  Mary ran to the disciples, Peter and John ran to the tomb. The Emmaus disciples ran at once after they had a burning experience with the Word of God expounded by Christ (John 20:1-9, Luke 24:25-35, John 20:24-31, Matthew 28:11-15). Our missional zeal only comes when we realize, experience the greatness of the Gospel in our lives. Mission can’t be a program of the church it must be the life of the congregation.

May the Risen Lord lead you into the resurrected power and immerse you into his heavenly power. Our Mission continues till we complete our race.

Save Whole Family

I greet you all in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. This month we will think about the role of each one in the family and in the family of God. The theme for this month is ‘“SAVE WHOLE FAMILY” (Genesis 7:1). Let’s try to revamp our duties and responsibilities as individuals and as a parishioner in the Church and a Child of God in the family of God.

Paul advised Timothy to lead his congregation as one family (1 Timothy 5:1-2). Worshippers are known as Parishioners. The church is the bride of Christ. The congregation is the household of Christ. All parishioners are children of God, brothers and sisters and heirs of God, and Co-hears of Christ (Romans 8:14-17). The whole world is one family because God has created only one Adam and only one Eve. All are posterities and Offspring of Adam. The church plays a vital role in the life of a believer. Newcomers are welcomed and treated with love, care, and concern.

Jesus often repeated that ‘He is also a son of Abraham’ and ‘she is also a daughter of Abraham’ after every healing and forgiving act. So much he emphasized the importance of the redeemed family. Jesus uttered while hanging on the Cross ‘behold he is your Son and behold he is your mother.’ This statement was not only for John and Mary but unto all who come to Christ. The love of God is exhibited through one another in the form of love. We call brother, sister, uncle, and aunty to prove the proximity of the relationship we have attained through the redemptive power of Christ. Let it grow!! Amen!!!

When God wanted to explain his motherly care, and maternal love, he used his Prophet Isaiah to explain the love of God through this verse ‘Can a woman forget her sucking child, that she should not have compassion on the son of her womb?’ (Isaiah 49:15-16). “The strongest and most enduring of instincts. It holds potent sway even in the brute creation, and among the lower tribes of animated beings. We see it exemplified in the timid bird hovering with a wailing cry over the threatened or despoiled nest, and, despite its feebleness and weakness, ready to give battle to the invader.” (Macduff).  The human motherly care stands at the helm of the affairs of the relationship we enjoy on the earth. God uses this maternal love to explain his compassion for his chosen people.

The book of Proverbs explains the characteristics of the wise and noblewoman of his times (Proverbs 31:10-31). How much more it would be today? We have the freedom to study, work, and do entrepreneurship. The husband-wife relationship is unique and powerful. Every race, every people group vouch for it. The nomadic to the elite treat this relationship as a vital one in society. Because it started with Adam and Eve. Apostle Peter explains beautifully the attributes needed for this relationship (1 Peter 3:1-7).

Children are the heritage of the Lord. Children normal, special, and needy are the heritage of the Lord. God gives special children on whom he had put more trust and stewardship. God never hates anyone. He had created us with his own image and likeness and passed it on to every person on the earth. Parental duties are very demanding and can’t be demeaned. Some parents don’t care about the well-being of their children. The psalmists explain the role of the parents while the children grow from stage to stage (Psalm 127). Paul remembers the commandments related to the responsibility of the children toward their parents. This is another area of Challenge the world faces today. From the days of Noah, God was concerned about it and it has jotted as a commandment during the days of Moses. It was strictly followed, and the disobedient children were punished and sentenced to death (Ephesians 6:1-3).

We have a story of Cornelius in Acts 10. He served in the army of the Roman emperor. Yet he was a devoted and God-fearing centurion. Not only does he observe everything written in the word of God, but even he also made his household seek God. He had Godfearing servants, jawans to carry the message that he had received from the Angel to Peter, and done a tremendous successful evangelistic campaign. Many received the revelation of God (Acts 10:1-8). The church should exhibit a fraternal relationship with one another. Unity is the single word to use for the entire activities of the parishioners. The world looks for such unity before we take the message of eternity to all (Psalm 133).

Enter in and enjoy the rest (Hebrews 4:9-11)

I greet you all in the name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! This month I would like to meditate with you all on the subject of rest. Rest and relaxation are forgotten concepts in this modern world. We are not promoting a Rest of what the world talks of, such as going to a place, merry with gluttony, and fulfilling the worldly desires to have pleasures. But I would like to make you understand the covenant of rest with work, worship, reading the word of God, and having fellowship with one another. Hence ‘Enter in and Enjoy the Rest’ (Hebrews 4:9-11)

Hence ‘Enter in and Enjoy the Rest’ (Hebrews 4:9-11)

Covenant of Rest looks like a new thought but exists from the creation narratives (Genesis 2:1-3). A covenant is a partnership, an agreement between God and men. The covenant refers to the laws given by YHWH through Moses. These are the regulations and requirements of man’s behavior toward God and toward his fellow humans. These commandments are also Heavenly kingdom principles. The New Covenant of rest is found in Christ.  To start with, we enter that rest when we trust God for our salvation. Jesus called his followers to find rest for their souls (Matthew 11:28-29). It also includes rest from the burden of man-made rules, regulations, and rituals (Luke 11:46), and from the never-ending ceremonial obligations of the Old Covenant (Hebrews 10:1b). This rest impacts our day-to-day living and helps us not to worry about the future (Matthew 6:24-34).

God created everything on six days and rested on the seventh day. By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so, on the seventh day, he rested from all his work. God blessed the seventh day and made it holy because on it he rested from all his work. Why did God rest on the seventh day? He created everything with his word. Only, He created man out of the mud and woman out of the rib. Does this work demand him a lot of energy? Does God need rest? Never. Because God is the same from eternity to eternity. He never became tired and never exhausted according to the scriptural references. Then why did he rest? He made it holy so that we could observe and get all the benefits of rest.

What are the benefits of the rest to the body, soul, and spirit? Rest and sleep boost the immune system improve memory, improve concentration and productivity, restore and energize the body system, and stimulate creativity. Without giving rest to your body if you follow a restrictive diet, healthy diet, and even exercise regularly, you will not enjoy the full benefit of them. Rest helps you to stay mentally and emotionally fit and healthy. Regular time away from work, help you even love your job. Rest reduces your stress and helps you to improve your productivity. God rested to set an example for all of us. So, we must retreat on Sundays.

Moses adds one word to this passage is that God made the seventh day HOLY in Genesis. Exodus 20:8-9, God gave it as one of the commandments to observe the Sabbath. Carefully read the words: ‘remember, keep it Holy, six days do all your work, do not do any work, blessed and made it holy.’ Every word communicates a deep theology and life values in it. God brought the observance of the Sabbath as a Commandment, not a voluntary act but a mandatory one.  Those who disobey the commandment were cut off from community living. Shabbat is a Jewish holiday that symbolizes the connection of Jews with God. Shabbat is a tie between God and the Jews. Jews light candles 15 minutes before the sunset on Friday to mark the beginning of Shabbat. Then special meal together with family. Then move to Synagogue for prayer, then rest in the night, next day morning gathered at Synagogue for Torah preaching. The whole day is spent only with divine matters. Shabbat is given at a specific time to a specific people group for a specific purpose. Yet the wisdom of that law is enduring. The commandment is not binding us but the principle and promise. Sabbath rest is an invitation to practice for eternity. Our rest has connectivity with worship.

Rest must accompany the reading of the Word of God, which will make us noble and wise (Deuteronomy 8:1-3). Rest connected with worship, and reading the Word of God. Shabbat is meant for holy deeds and holy acts. Such as, reading the Word, proclaiming the Word, and praying. Our resting days are days of renewal of fellowship with one another (2 Corinthians 2:12-17). It does matter the time we spend together to inquire about the well-being of one another. We worship for the pleasure of God and not just bring our desires, demands, prayers, and petitions (Ecclesiastes 4:7-9).

Honor God with your bodies (1 Corinthians 6:19-20). Our bodies are temples of God. God loves to dwell in us and he expects us to present our bodies as holy and acceptable to God. God was so concerned about the purity, holiness, and sacredness of the tabernacle. Then think of his demands for us to present our bodies to him.  Will God dwell in every heart? There are occasions when the Spirit of God is left from people? Samson lost the Spirit of God. Saul lost his relationship with God. David cried out to God for the restoration of the Spirit. Moses prayed unless you go before me, I will not go. He is a Holy God. He never compromises his standard. He did not allow Moses and Aaron to enter the promised land as a symbolic expression of his judgment on the last days.

Prayer Life

This month, I am led by the Lord to meditate on the importance of the Prayer life. This is a very interesting practical subject but hard to practice, but the theory is very sweet to read and talk. Prayer is the only way to blessings. There are volumes of books available on this topic, but a few had tasted the fullness of the joy of it. I hope at the end of this month many knees would kneel before the Lord and many tongues will confess that Jesus is Lord. Prayer has no particular module or syllabus but it demands the heart of the seeker of God and acknowledging the existence of the Almighty in all life situations.

The promise for this month is from Jeremiah 33:3. “Call unto me, and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know” (NIV). This verse has three components of certainties, namely, Calling the Lord, Answer of the Lord, and Experiences of the Miracles of the Lord.

  1. Calling the Lord

This is an almost everyday event on the earth. Everyone who calls unto the Lord irrespective of religion and purity has this experience. The Lord one who created all of us has set his ears to attend to the prayers of the saints and sinners alike. He is the God of impossibilities and impartiality. He is a respecter of no person. The calling of the name of the Lord is named as Prayer, cries, and meditation. There are many ways to express the difficulties, distresses, and troubles to the almighty. God heard the prayers, cries, and even sighs of the individuals and communities. Bible has full of events of all these things. God is so gracious and compassionate because he hears the cries, groans, and mourning of everyone. All are his creation.

The promise given here is motivating grace for all of us. Then call on me when you are in trouble, and I will rescue you, and you will give me glory.” (Psalm 50:15) For in the day of trouble He will hide me in His shelter; He will conceal me under the cover of His tent; He will set me high upon a rock (Psalm 27:5). And call upon me in the day of affliction, and I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me. Pause. (Brent Septuagint) And call Me in a day of adversity, I deliver you, and you honor Me (YLT). (Psalm 50:15) Call on me in the day of distress; I will deliver you, and you will glorify me (ISV). Psalm 50:15). In my distress I called upon the LORD; I cried to my God for help. From His temple, He heard my voice and my cry for His marvelous ears. (Psalm 18:6). Is any one of you suffering? He should pray (James 5:13). In the day of my trouble, I sought the Lord: my sore ran in the night, and ceased not: my soul refused to be comforted. (Psalm 77:2).

  1. The answer of the Lord

It is another certainty that God answers us always. He answers several ways the seekers. He rescues them, redeems them, releases them, comforts them, and consoles them. Jeremiah 33:3 puts this as ‘Call to Me and I will answer you.” 1 Peter 3:12 says that the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous and his ears are attentive to their prayer. 1 John 5:15 says that if we know that he hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have what we asked of him.  Jeremiah 29:12-13 say then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. John 16:24 says that until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. Isaiah 65:24 – ‘Before they call I will answer; while they are yet speaking I will hear.’

  1. Experiences of the Miracles

Then he expresses that I will tell you and even show you great and mighty things, things which have been confined and hidden, which you do not know and understand and cannot distinguish.’ (Amplified Bible). “… I will tell you wonderful and marvelous things that you know nothing about.’(Good News).  ‘I will tell you remarkable secrets you do not know about things to come (NLT). (The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant- Psalm 25:14). He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honor him. (Psalm 91:15). ‘Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses…’(Psalm 103: 6-13, 19, 28).

For those who seek God, and call him with a sincere heart, God answers and does miracles of healing, enjoyment of peace, and joy. May the Lord help each and every one of us to spend time praying at least for considerable minutes on daily basis to experience the Miracles in your and others’ lives.
